There is a need for an inquest into the death of Dr David Kelly, according to former assistant coroner Dr Michael Powers QC.

Dr Powers said that there had never been an adequate investigation into the cause of Dr Kelly's death, and that many questions remain unanswered.

Dr Kelly's body was found in woods close to his Oxfordshire home in 2003, shortly after it was revealed that he was the source of a BBC report casting doubt on the government's claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction capable of being fired within 45 minutes.

An inquest was suspended by then Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer, who ruled that Lord Hutton's inquiry could take its place.

Lord Hutton's report in 2004 concluded that Dr Kelly had killed himself by cutting an artery in his wrist.

iv always been a tad suspicious of Dr Kelly's death, one minute he comes out and goes against the weapons of mass destruction being in iraq, the next he is dead from an apparent suicide, hmmm i smell fishiness. there is always hope that the truth will come out, however i wont hold my breath that we will hear about it

EDITED TO ADD WHILE I CAN - UPDATED NEWS REPORT

this has just been updated: Attorney general rules against Dr David Kelly inquest

The attorney general has said he will not order an inquest into the death of government scientist Dr David Kelly.

Dr Kelly, who found himself at the centre of a row between the BBC and the former Labour government over Iraq intelligence, was found dead in 2003.

The original inquest was suspended when the Hutton inquiry investigated his death - it ruled he committed suicide.

A group of doctors say that finding was "clearly unsafe" and have said they may seek a judicial review into the issue.

I know it was a long time ago but do you remember a helicopter being in the area at the time.
This is why I ask.

An interesting piece from the article.

Significantly, the flight log has been heavily redacted, making it impossible to know who was on board or what its exact purpose was.
The flight was not mentioned in oral evidence at the Hutton Inquiry, set up by Tony Blair to investigate Dr Kelly’s death.

Hi,

I honestly dont. I lived about 2 miles away from Southmoor in a place called Hinton Waldrist (check on google maps). It is across a main dual carriageway and we also have RAF Brize Norton the other side of me. Therefore police/military aircraft are constantly circling overhead (Brize is a busy base - Now even more so).

My understanding is that there was a load of tablets found with him and i remember reading somewhere that there was issues over that also?

As I said, I did hear that all was not as clear cut as it seems. Unfortunately I have no contact with my source anymore and not sure they would want to get involved.

Sorry I cant be more help.

Agreed. He was pivotal in the whole matter.

Like lots of people who die/get murdered who are in the public arena, they are merely pawns in a bigger game. When you are not needed or can spoil the game........out of the game you go, in a way you cannot tell people what has happened.

the fact of the matter is that no one believes his death was at his own hand , and i mean no one.
the british government does not care what the people think and never has done .
they are never going to admit that he was telling the truth about iraq .
because it would prove that the invasion and countless deaths in doing so was illegal
and would lead the ministers to face war crime charges
