What are the chances the U.S. economy could eventually trigger violence in our country?

People banding together for the common good will happen once people realize, they have a common enemy. It could be the Gov't, a gang or the town down the road. Plenty will die though in the meantime. At that point, people will band together, come up with a plan and for better or worse, act upon it.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

But that's just what I'm saying: People will not "act upon it" unless they first come up with a plan. The simple act of "banding together" does not generate a plan. The most that would do is lead to infighting, because you would have other groups banding together for the same reasons, but with different solutions. And I doubt we would even go that far in response to a bad economy. The whole "common bad" or "common enemy" thing doesn't work so well when you're talking about the society that you, yourself are relying upon, because unless you're ready to put an alternative solution into place, good luck finding food and water.

History has shown that violence and civil unrest happens when large groups of people -agree- upon a better alternative to their predicament. Whether you're talking about the American Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, or even the violence in the Middle East right now... this latest one is a good example. People in the Middle East in many cases do NOT agree on exactly what system of government they want to create, so you might think it disproves my point, but quite the contrary:

Most scholars agree that it was social media and the internet that led to these uprisings. Using the internet, these people were able to see the kind of freedoms the rest of the world was enjoying, and communicate with each other. They came together in agreement over an alternative solution - greater human rights and freedoms - because they saw what was possible and compared it to what they had.

In the case of the US economy, we are NOT coming together in agreement, because we're looking around, and quite frankly... we're not seeing any better ideas than what we have. We generally don't even know how we got into this mess, much less what we could be doing to prevent it. Maybe there is a solution out there but nobody seems to be agreeing on it yet.

The only reason it didn't happen during the Great Depression is because this was a different country then, than it is now! Now we live in a society of American Idle, and Ipods, and Iphones. Now everyone thinks they are entitled to their fair share whether it means taking from someone else to get it or not. Now we have people that go on welfare with absolutely no intention of ever getting off of it simply because they think that it is owed to them

I think it very easily could have happened in the 30s. If it would have been on the agenda it would have.

Everything in politics is planned. Everything !!! We need to mess up the plan.

As the time goes on, the percentage of uneasy people about the situation will rise. When there's no money for food, clothes, entertainment, etc., then maybe we'll see an uprising in the places worse off. Places that have been doing good so far, are finally seeing the issues that the rest of the country has been facing.
The once middle class and well off people and families are now on food stamps, going to food banks and shopping at thift stores, and other resources that were once deemed for the "poor", just where you'd never see these people because they had better finances prior to the economy crisis.

Take a break from this blog right now and email your Congressmen and Senators and demand that the Constitution, Amendments and Bill of Rights is to be upheld and that you have no doubt some higher level of influence has been setting the stage for the destruction of this world and country. That you DEMAND that everything is done IMMEDIATELY to take back the government for the people. Let all of your friends know, coworkers, walk into a church and speak to the local preacher / priest if you believe that a planned End of world is coming, tell ALL of your military friends, ALL of your police friends. These last two groups are the most important as they will be responsible for Marshall law when it's imposed, and the hundreds of thousands of good ones need to be aware most of all. We're portrayed as radicals for a reason. Sheeple/people can only connect the dots if a seed of knowledge has been planted. Even if they think that you are crazy, the next bit of news that they hear might make them pause for just a minute!
Please, do it for your families and this country NOW. I'm tired of hearing that it won't make a difference, but I for one am not going to sit around any longer. I've got 50 more Senators to email... Not everyone in high positions are in the plan, and trust me, nearly EVERYONE has come to the conclusion that this government seems hell bent in destroying this country. I truly believe that we need to convince those people that still believe that one particular party is to blame. Even Obama supporters are starting to think WTF. Please do your part starting today.

It's why the UK government is cutting the regular non-armed police levels these last couple of years due to 'budget constraints' but suddenly have announced this week the new Crime Unit which is to be armed I think. They know protests are coming, and they need this UK Homeland Security copy cat when Marshall law is installed
(or whatever it's called over here!)

Chances are close to 100 percent and the US government has already taken the necessary precautionary-measures to counter such unrest:

2009:

Urban Warfare Drills Linked To Coming Economic Rage

Urban warfare training drills are taking place across the country as top analysts as well as officials predict a potential “summer of rage” across Europe and America as civil unrest from the economic fallout builds.

An Iowa National Guard training exercise in Arcadia, Iowa, scheduled for April was originally billed as an “invasion” before public opposition caused the drill to be scaled back. The exercise included Guard troops patrolling streets, searching houses and confiscating firearms. source

2008:

Concerns about deployment of military on U.S. soil growing — while mainstream media buries its head in the sand

The following is the spin of military spokespeople in response to questions about the deployment of the First Brigade on US soil for the first time in over 200 years.

The Army Times initially reported that the First Brigade would handle domestic crowd control and subduing ‘unruly individuals’ and that they had ‘lethal and nonlethal technologies’ to do so. Then it issued a correction declaring that the ‘nonlethal’ package was not for domestic crowd control. Then after a hue and cry was raised by many citizens, Northern Command (NorthCom) offered a wholesale revision of their mission – and the mainstream media is eating it up.

Meet the active denial system (from the documentary: Secret weapons in Iraq):

At 44:40 min:

And then there's perhaps the worst of all: the FEMA camps.

The governments have seen this long coming and have actively prepared for dealing with civil unrest, but unlike most nations, the American people still have arms to fight back.

There already has been violence I'd wager, it just hasn't been recorded as being related. I promise you, someone who had financial prospects in 2007 has turned to crime to get money. How much has it happened? How violent has it got? I am going to try and find reliable data and do some reading, but for now I'll just say in conjecture, and from observation, things have gotten a little desperate. If you increase the fraction of people with nothing to lose, then violence becomes less costly, and more likely. I don't know if any of you have ever been totally financially f*cked, because of something that happened, I'm sure some of you have, but I can tell you it's very angering, very depressing, and those who have weak hearts may do things they might not have done normally. I think good insight will come from the psychological effects of debt, depression, etc. Not to mention, I myself have been in a general state of discontent frequently since the crash in 2008, especially upon learning some of the things the government did, or did not do, so there's that as well.

As a Non-American I can't really understand this? I mean, riots and demonstrations if the economy collapses I get, but civil war? Who would fight who?

Un-employed vs employed or what? If the dollar plunges, it won't matter who is in office.

So many people out of work, and those who are working are one step away from being homeless. If things get worse than what they are now, causing so many to feel they have nothing else to lose, things could blow up.
