George Bush senior was against invasion.

I've seen this mentioned in a few papers over the last couple of days, itís an interesting find.

From the book 'A world transformed' written by Bush senior and his former national security adviser, Brent Scowcroft and published in 1998:

"To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day Arab hero...assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinnable urban guerilla war"

"It could only plunge that part of the world into even greater instability."

Maybe he should have put the book in Juniors Christmas stocking...

Well that makes sense. I wonder if he feels the same way today? Probably not.

I think you'll find this is about "occupation", not "invasion". I seem to recall that Bush1 was rather keen on "invasion".
Also, of course, the Pentagon Party Line, under Bush2, remains "against" "occupation".
