Huge solar flare explodes on camera

www.washingtonpost.com< br />

A flash of light, a burst of energy: In a rare video captured by NASA, a solar flare is caught on camera. The flare peaked on Tuesday, creating a massive cloud that covered almost half the sun, NASA said. Solar flares are caused by a build up of magnetic energy, released into the solar atmosphere. The amount of energy is equivalent to millions of hydrogen bombs exploding at the same time.

This really sent goosebumps up my back and just about anywhere else you can think of. What an incredible display of power. I have never seen anything like it and apparently NASA hasn't either. All I have to say is if you are in the USA and in the northern half of the country, the Northern Lights may be visible tonight as far south as Pittsburgh, PA and New York City! Minor communication disruptions and some power outages may be associated with the flare, though NASA says the effects will be minimal.

I looked through the search and found nothing that was recently listed. Everything was months old. It is not my fault ATS doesn't sort their news stories or the likes by date.

100% agreement with that statement.

My opinion, as of now (supposedly more changes coming but....), the new search feature, is no better than the last. The addition of a 'Search By Most Recent' option to the previous search, would have been much more useful. It actually makes no sense at all. Recent hot news stories are the ones most likely to get duplicated.

The search doesnt work well everytime thats true.

But i think most of ats'ers know there is a own thread, watch for solar activity, volcanoes, quakes and recently added tornadoes. So maybe check there first before ats gets spoiled with all these same threads.(all located in fragile earth)
If you want to make your own thread about any recent activity, maybe it would be nice to mention that in these threads where everyone can easy check them out.
Just to help ats and their users.
cheers

Edit to add, ah yes, you must know because you posted it, you repeated the exact same thing, how ironic of you to do that?
