This explosion lasted about 5 hours and reached hundreds of thousands of miles at incredible speeds. Thankfully the Earth should be spared the full brunt of this incoming wave but it's hard to deny it's beauty.

Not sure why, but the right half of the photo was cut off which shows the extent of the flare.

The CME was associated with an M-class flare...hardly massive. Further, only a portion of it was Earth directed and is expected to only cause "minor geomagnetic activity". I do agree that it is rather beautiful to watch though.

Okay, I fixed the photos so you can actually see the flare. It was massive simply by the sheer size of the ejection not in intensity as it was only a M-Class.

And I meant to say "misses us by DAYS" not hours. I was thinking about how long this spectacle lasted. Only a few days ago, this sunspot was pointing right at the Earth. It the Mods can edit that title it would be greatly appreciated.

I think the major 1 will make a super large BLACK area or Sun spot that will basically cover entire face of SOL before ejecting.

Very beautiful indeed.
