I want to know about Free Masonry...

What is Free Masonry all about? There seems to be a lot of disinformation out there. Is anyone welcome to join or are only certain types of people welcome? Do you have to ask to join or be asked? Is Free Masonry more than just a boys club? Can nonmembers have access to their libraries or is the information in their libraries now online?
