hello ATS members this is my story:
About 8 years ago I ruptured something in my stomach due to drinking coffee on an empty stomach. For years afterwards I found myself requiring antacids frequently and daily about 1-1/2 rolls a day then they were ineffective went on to pills and then onto stronger pills as prescribed by doctor. These were becoming ineffective as well so i went to my doctor and was recommended to a specialist had an ultrasound and was about to be rectal scoped surgery was suggested. I was deeply depressed about all of this being in my early thirty's and my stomach destroyed the thoughts of being on a restricted diet for the rest of my life concerned me greatly. I was terrified!

Then someone told me about unfiltered unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. So I went out to buy some. I consumed the apple cider vinegar 1/2 ounces when effected by heart burn At first it was 3 doses a day first 3-4 days after that it was 2 times a day. 2 weeks later it was every other day 4 weeks later it was once a month. Heart burn is gone no more heart burn.
I only took it when effected by heart burn this may not work for everyone. Everyone's stomach is different you may not be the same as me. As I understand it most heart burn is caused by lack of acid in the stomach and the vinegar balances that. I also hear that apple cider vinegar has other remedy uses as well .I also eat what ever I want now with no hear burn.
Disclaimer: I am no doctor what you do is you're own free will. This was not recommended by doctor to me. A friend told me about it.
It did work for me and it may work for you. I will be answering you're questions once daily let me know if it worked for you.

No offense but that crap didn't work for me at all. Actually the only thing that has worked for me isn't natural. It is Omeprazole.

I dont eat tomatoes, acidics in any way and suffered for a long time with GERD, I think that Apple cider vinegar actually hurt my stomach more (when taking it). I like your disclaimer, though.

Omeprazole (Prilosec OTC) all the way baby!

I recommend it to ANYONE who has reoccuring stomach acid issues.

I wasn't calling you out. I have heard others say this works, but I have never met a "real life" person that has had it work. (real life meaning non-internet...friend or whatever)

I wish it worked for me (your method) because it claims to be a cure and that would be better than taking a drug. I will take your word for it that it worked for you...but I have to admit I am pretty skeptical. It makes me think its more real as a placebo.

Ginger capsules with powdered ginger root inside are great for this also, also for IBS, they cost about £6 for 30, but are worth every penny !

I agree! Fantastic stuff. Followed the 'reading' breadcrumbs a while ago to a site and found out about the apple cidar vinegar, works for me.

Warning....
don't clean your teeth up to 1/2 hour later unless you want to remove all the really hard stuff your dentist normally does!

I've been taking licorice DGL as needed recently. I think all the vodka (neat) has injured my stomach. The DGL seems to help a lot.

Want to add also...for those late nighters, it cures my hangovers!
YES...plural

Have it before bed, or when your stomach can handle it in the morning, and Bobs your uncle! (translation....'there you go', for non-aus.)

Like I said....works for me

It has worked for me I use organic unfiltered unpasteurized raw apple cider vinegar with "mother".The mother is a beneficial bacteria. I personally know of five people this has worked for. Some mix it with honey for added benefit.

Haha I laughed at this because I too went through a Vodka period (23-27 or so) and yeah my stomach went to crap. I never new if it was an age thing or if vodka effed up my tummy that bad.

I started having heartburn several years after having to have my gallbladder removed. The doctor didn't see any connection and prescribed Prilosec. Of course I felt better immediately, and was on that drug for ten years.

But then I went to a chiropractor who also uses "applied kenisiology" or "muscle testing" to check for more than just misaligned bones. He said I had a hiatal hernia, which he was able to set back in place right there in his office by pushing on my abdomen and dragging the stomach back into place. He also put me on some herbs to help with the missing gallbladder.

Within two weeks I was completely off the Prilosec and symptom-free. The hernia will always tend to pop out on occasion but I just go back to the chiropractor and it's done.

I used to have lots and lots of heartburn, thought it was almost normal. Then I stopped drinking soda, stopped eating "meat", and began to drink lots of water everyday. I've never, not once, ever, had heartburn again. If this assists anyone else, good. More power to ya.

Stop drinking ALL sodas! Combining sodas with specific chemical compounds create carcinogens in your body. Things by themselves may be safe according to the FDA, but combined with other toxic foods create these carcinogens in your stomach. It's not an accident so many people are suffering from GERDs and other intestinal disruptions. Coffee seems hardly to be the cause.

Once you've screwed up your innards like it sounds some of you have, you're at the mercy of Big Pharma, just the way they want it to be.

wow thats awesome that it worked for you. I have never heard that! i have heard of apple cider vinegar working for a lot of other things, its like a miracle vinegar lol.

i feel your pain though. when i was 19 i had my gal bladder removed after suffering for 3 years with attacks. a year later i was diagnosed with hiatal(sp?) hernia which left me with severe stomach acid problems and terrible heartburn. for years i couldnt eat simple foods. or even go out to eat. unless i was going home right away b/c i would end up in the bathroom. when it was worst i would throw up. i used to drink a lot of red bull until i started throwing up blood (sorry for everyone that is pretty graphic sounding im sure) so no more carbonation for me according to my dr. also things like red sauce are off the menu.

for years & years I had prescriptions to all sorts of different anti heartburn meds. they would work for a while then not. i went the natural route and that didnt really help. well then what worked for me?

i switched to eating organic food. not sure how this helped but it did. i can actually eat spaghetti again with out being ill. heck i can even have cereal now! also i do not need to take any more pills. my dr was very impressed with this.

fun fact : the over the counter stuff is the same as most prescription stuff. the prescription stuff lost their patent, and the otc companies gobbled it up. (according to my dr)

fun fact : things like acid blockers do just that block acid production so if you are taking something like prilosec and taking other meds for other problems and find that you aren't getting any benefit from them it is b/c most medicines require stomach acid to break down & be absorbed. (I have read stories of people pooping out whole pills) seems like common sense now, but i never thought about that at the time.

anyways. just excited someone else was able to overcome terrible heartburn that control their life! hooray for you keep spreading your knowledge!!! help others with this condition! =)

vinegar also works. but heart burn is your body telling you that your diet is not right. you have to fix the problem, not put a band-aid over it. cut out all sugar and carbs and you will be heart burn free forever.

I suffered from heartburn for years, it was miserable! I was finally diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and was told that it was irreversible because the stomach acid had actually changed my esophagus into stomach lining tissue!

I was on Prilosec OTC for months and the only real relief was when I was using Nexium (the purple pill). Well, no matter what I did from changing my diet to continuing to eliminate the "stress" out of my life, I suffered!

I read where Prilosec will actually cause bone degradation, and that calcium supplements would be needed; the thought of such a thing was horrific. Especially the cases I read where someone had Jaw-bone degradation!

It was about that time I was using Colliodal Silver and had used that for nearly a year. I waned off of the Silver over that time and as I did I discovered that my acidy stomach went away. No more acid, no more pain and discomfort, it all sort of healed. I was also trying the Cancer Treatment of using Baking Soda with Maple Syrup. What ever I did it worked!

Now the End of the World can hit us and I am just Stress free and feeling good! It has been over two years now since my last bout of heartburn. I have not continued the Silver unless I get a grumbly tummy, and the Baking Soda was temporary at best because that tastes nasty as ever!

Also I managed to get off of Fluoride completely. No Fluoride water, no Fluoride toothpaste, and I am super careful with food preparation that I only use filtered water.

I do wish you and anyone luck with this sort of thing. I am fully confident now that my hiatal hernia is no more.

There is a chance that I had H.pylori, the bacterium responsible for a large number of Stomach problems, and the Silver knocked it out forever!

No one should suffer like that!

If you cannot afford Nexium, AstraZeneca will provide you will free medication; you only need to qualify by asking your doctor to endorse the prescription! Call them, they might help!

Patient Assistance Program

Typically I do not condone the use of medications over a long-term, and I hate pharmaceutical companies, but I was able to use Nexium as a bridge of comfort as I made adjustments in my life. Nexium is a once-a-day pill that is about $200 for 30 days supply, and I managed to take one pill every 3-5 days instead, stretching it out further with the same amount of relief.

I am so thankful to be off all medications. I won't even take asprin any longer if I can help it.

Goodluck
