You have to look at the witch hunts in context. Back in those days, suspected witches were seen as being a threat to society. It isn't much different
today how we treat suspected terrorists at Gitmo because we view them as threat to our society. Besides, accounts of the witch-hunts are often
exaggerated.
Most witches were burned due to a misunderstanding - you're actually right - although they did scream and yell and wave their bible at them, the real
reason they were burned was out of fear of independent thought.
In context, terrorists don't fear our religion either - and in most cases (if you really look into it) the terrorists do not commit their acts
because of religion (just once again, waving their particular brand of bible at us while doing it) - They do it because we're over there trying to
force ours down their throat (bring our troops home I bet they'd be a lot happier with us)
Meanwhile, if we're lucky enough that Aliens are benevolent (which I don't believe) - its not religion they have to fear, but the idiots who
immediately assume they are a threat and start shooting at them (whether they're slinging bibles has nothing to do with it)
If Aliens never get here, at some point in our distant future we will likely be the Aliens visiting other planets - if we find a lesser society than
ours, odds are pretty good will kill them off (intentionally and through contractual virus) - history shows thats what we do - swarm in - infest -
take over - through violence
