Yeah, no such animal as off the grid if a cell can get signal anymore.

To clear up some confusion, turning off gps will not matter as the signal goes to the tower nearest and is weakly picked up by others.
All they have to do is pick up the 3 strongest signals and triangulate the pinpoint from there.
No such thing as off the grid cell phones.

That is quite a wake-up! My brother has a 917 area code - messed it up once and redialed without realizing I had hit 911 - police were rather suspicious of my story at first but after showing them my phone and profusely apologizing they left. Still, having the cops at your door pounding away is never a good thing.
