A US drone strike likely killed Pakistan's Al-Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri, in what would deal a major blow to the terror network a month after Osama bin Laden's death.

The 47-year-old is one of the most feared operational commanders of the network that bin Laden founded and has been blamed for a string of high-profile attacks on Western targets, as well as in India and Pakistan.

Anti-terrorism experts have long described Kashmiri as one of Al-Qaeda's main operational commanders. He reportedly escaped a US drone strike in North Waziristan in late 2009.

So it's reported they THINK they killed him again...
The US refuses to comment...

I can't seem to find any final outcome from back then..
A drone attack on Sept. 7 appeared to have killed another prominent Islamic militant, Ilyas Kashmiri, who had been briefly detained in Pakistan for alleged involvement in a 2003 assassination attempt against then-Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. There is less certainty about his death, however.

It's getting harder and harder to get any real answers about what is really going on, who is being killed or who is running the show..
Maybe that's how the US wants it to be, keep everyone guessing...

Well Pakistan did say they were going to stop any US drone attacks in their country but this again from the link..
Friday's drone attack was the ninth reported in Pakistan's border area with Afghanistan since US commandos killed bin Laden in the garrison city of Abbottabad on May 2.


Who knows what the US and Pakistan Governments are doing??

Seems still very tense between them..
IMO it's hard to predict which way this will go..
Will the US eventually consider Pakistan more as an Allie or a Foe..

The "Confirmation" of his death came in the form of a fax to a news organization.

It was "signed", by his groups spokesman.
"They" also released a photo of him after death.

Turns out the photo is not him!

Yes, again. And again, and again, and again...these guys are like miller moths in the summer! kill a hundred another hundred are there the next night! And I love how it's ALWAYS "top" or "second in command" or "bomb making master" or some such thing. It really is growing old all this.

Part of this is the Middle Eastern naming convention. It makes for a LOT of confusion in identifying people. It's as if half of America was named John Smith.

The other issue is that due to high use of Nepotism and natives, it's difficult to get good humint (human intelligence) in such areas. (leading to even more confusion).
