What is the point of censorship? Why censor the human body? Is there something wrong or dirty about it? What is so disgusting about the human body that it has to be censored when naked but not animals on the discovery channel? Sex I can understand because that is pornography, but to just show a naked human body without the sexual intention? Why censor?

Also, why censor swear words? What is so evil or wrong about making some sound with your mouth? Probably racist or offensive terms should be censored like the n word or the f word for gay people, but other than that, why censor the f word? What is so dirty about that word? It just means sex!?

Why are Latin words considered OK and the German words are dirty? What is more innocent about the word "penis" rather than "D*ck" or the word "sex" instead of "f*ck" or the word, why "urinate" instead of "p*ss". I find it so racist that the German words are evil and the Latin words are good. Also, what is so bad about damn which just means to invoke evil upon or to curse, and hell which is a place of torture. If that's the case why not ban the words "pain" and "suffering" or "kill" or "shoot" and all the other words which torturing or evil intent? What do you think of all of this?

I agree. Its all modern political correctness. There isn't much that makes me more mad then when I'm listening to a song on the radio and there are gaps through it. Only because people are afraid that the occasional swear word would damage them somehow. I also agree about the nudity thing. As long as nudity is portrayed the way it is, its teaching people that it isn't natural and should be frowned upon. Sad really.

Humans aren't mature enough and they lack temperance. When people can look at the naked human body of a stranger and not feel arousal or lust, then they can have their nudity.

As for the swearing argument: frankly its censorship doesn't really make that much sense. It should be kept colloquial though, imo.

And here lies at least part of the problem. In one moment , you've said that sex is pornography. And in the next you ask, What's so dirty about sex? People are confused and uptight.

The reason things are censored is that other people are uncomfortable with them. We have been raised in a society where certain things are considered to be private. And when people bring what society agrees to be private out into the public, people get uncomfortable.

You apparently draw your line at actual sex in public, thinking it's a perfectly reasonable place to draw that line. If we truly had no censorship, people COULD have sex in public. But everyone draws their line in a different place. So to assure everyone's comfort, we restrict ourselves in public.

I see nothing wrong with words and I use them freely in my home, but when dealing with other people, I have been taught to censor my words and deeds. It's just part of being raised in this culture. There are other cultures that aren't quite as uptight.

It works the other way around. People have to be exposed to the naked body for a time before they stop feeling arousal and lust at the sight of it. That's what happens at nudist colonies. You get used to everyone being naked and it becomes the norm. As long as people act in this puritan manner (cover up the body and don't utter certain arrangements of letters in public) we will remain in this censor-heavy society.

I'm only arguing for the censorships mentioned in the original post. So people wouldn't be able to have sex in public.

Sex is pornography, and I wasn't saying what's so dirty about sex. I'm talking about the word used to refer to it. What's so dirty about the word "f*ck" and clean about "sex"? The F word is from Germanic languages and sex is from Latin, it seems that German words are always the swear words and not the Latin ones.

I like to put it this way: Good and Evil are set in stone. Right and Wrong, however, are matters of public opinion.

Irrelevant. Or maybe I'm not understanding what you are trying to say. So, what do you mean by that? Are you saying that you agree or disagree with the original post?

I remember growing up watching documentaries on tv where they showed different tribes and they were all naked and now those same documentaries are censored. I wasn't scarred as a child seeing these things. They weren't having sex, it was people in their natural element. We are born naked! You aren't born with clothes on

I always wondered who said certain words are curse words and the origin of the most popular ones. The "F" word is a favorite, it can be used in so many different scenarios compared to the other ones. It can be used in a negative way and it can be used in a positive way...I can't say how for obvious reasons
Personally people should stop getting so offended over words, they are just words. They can't hurt you and imo if you let them then the other person has won. The saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" is so true to me. I have never cared what someone said about me, it's just the way I was raised. Words are words, they can't hurt you. If you let words hurt you the other wins and gets what they want.

I guess it's in the context you use them, ie hell and damn. I remember getting a smack on the mouth a few times using those words as a kid

I know. I understood your point. But my point is... if there's nothing dirty about sex (the word OR the action) then why are both prohibited in public? You say one is obviously not good (having sex in public) and one should be OK (saying the f-word in public).

If sex itself is not "dirty", then why not allow having sex in public? That's YOUR line of what should be censored. Everyone's line is in a different place.

I'm just playing devil's advocate. I don't like censorship either, but I was pointing out that one man's "dirty" is another man's "acceptable".

It's illegal to speak about sex in public? I didn't know this. Our freedom of speech is really going down the drain if this is true.

If you don't like what you see, look away. If you don't like what you hear, walk away or ignore it, and if you can't ignore it, be grateful that just like that person has the freedom to say what they wish, so do you.

Also, I never said whether or not public sex is good or bad. I know that having sex in public is illegal but using swear words aren't so why censor them? It's illegal for anyone under 18 to watch sex so that's another reason why, I'm speaking from a legal standpoint but saying swear words are illegal so that part shouldn't be censored. And if the nudity isn't sex, then it shouldn't be censored because nudity does not equal to sex.

Swearing is obscenity and is not protected by the First Amendment.

When you said "if there's nothing dirty about sex (the word OR the action) then why are both prohibited in public?"

I thought you meant that it was indeed illlegal to talk about sex in public as well as having sex in public. I apologize if I misunderstood.

Also, that is so unfair because what is obscene or not is an opinion. Some people can find one thing obscene and others do not.

Most Gibbons will concur with your argument.
