This news should be of interest to those seeking energy from vacuum:

"Moving mirrors make light from nothing"

"Light created from the void"

This is quite interesting.

However - it doesn't generate "something" from "nothing" - more energy is not taken out than is put in.

It could have some rather interesting applications in the future, however. The effect, at least. Perhaps even lead to a form of energy-matter conversion. Which would be very useful if we do ever come across a source of over-unity power (to say the least). Though more 'down-to-earth' proposals would center around more reliable forms of exotic particle generation.

and there is no such thing as "nothing" its impossible for there to be "nothing" in fact the word should not even exist.

Interesting, reminds me of Klimov and quantum dots. Seems there's a source of energy we can tap into after all.. 700% efficient solar cells?

Very interesting indeed. I've always believed that there is no such thing as "nothing" and now it looks like science may have finally caught up and proved me right!

And "light" being--very possibly--the base spark of creation as indicated here should the experiments prove repeatable, would be what our holy men have been telling us for ages.

Let there be light.

not only is there no such thing as nothing, but a mirror is something...
so therefore wherever the mirror is , there is no void.

it is possible that particles from the mirror caused this effect,
and/or the hard surface of the mirror played the strings of energy that connect everything like a
violin... causing those strings to resonate with each other,
producing enough energy that it had to release it in the form of light...

and the idea of a virtual particle being real is absurd and contradictory.
they need to better explain themselves so that people don't think they are useless.

A team of physicists is claiming to have coaxed sparks from the vacuum of empty space.

Reminds me of what Nikola Tesla was on to...

Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point of the universe. This idea is not novel. Men have been led to it long ago by instinct or reason; it has been expressed in many ways, and in many places, in the history of old and new. We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who derives power from the earth; we find it among the subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians and in many hints and statements of thinkers of the present time. Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic! If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic — and this we know it is, for certain — then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.

And one more quote...

"We are whirling through endless space, with an inconceivable speed, all around us everything is spinning, everything is moving, everywhere there is energy... There must be some way of availing ourselves of this energy more directly. Then, with the light obtained from the medium, with the power derived from it, with every form of energy obtained without effort, from the store forever inexhaustible, humanity will advance with giant strides. The mere contemplation of these magnificent possibilities expands our minds, strengthens our hopes and fills our hearts with supreme delight." — Nikola Tesla, referring to Zero Point Energy in 1891

Seems like we're making scientific advances in an area the most prolific man in the last 200 years predicted.
