Cadet sues R&B singer LaBelle over airport beating

Lawyers for a West Point cadet who says bodyguards for soul singer Patti LaBelle beat him while he was waiting for a ride at a Houston airport released security video Thursday showing the student being pushed and punched by two men and a woman.

Richard King, 23, a U.S. Military Academy senior from Houston, filed a lawsuit this week against the 67-year-old vocalist, three of her entourage, a Bush Intercontinental Airport taxi dispatcher and the airport, seeking unspecified actual and punitiv

Another celebrity & her crew may get away with breaking the law, because…why? Luggage?

I hope this cadet, whose fledgling career may just well be ruined before he even starts it, gets every dime coming to him.

Even though there is no audio, the video clearly shows that the cadet was talking on his cell and appeared to have no idea that he was in the presence of such a celebrity. What was he even thinking? Doesn’t he know better than to infringe, in a public airport no less, upon a celebrities space.

What really gets me is that LaBelle's limo driver claims he was hit by the victim, but the security video clearly shows nothing of the sort. The kid was grabbed and pushed away, so he reacted, like most people would, and pushed back. Then he gets knocked out.

And the way that "bodyguard" just stood over him after they knocked him to the ground... he must feel like a big tough guy beating up someone almost half his size.

S&F for you.

He's got a payday coming for sure. What I saw on that video was a clearly unprovoked attack on an innocent bystander.

His career in the Army may be over though, because the honor code at West Point is notoriously strict. So yeah, I hope he gets P.A.I.D. PAID.

Looks like he pushed first. Is he trying to retire?

I say it would of been a different story had King been armed. These bullies were counting on the fact that King was in an airport and thus not armed. The bullies expect that the serfs should know their place, and if not the smackdown will begin.

Interesting to see the Houston Police posing for pictures afterwards. If I had just gotten a 55 gallon drum of ass whip poured on me, I would not feel too good to see the police officers posing for pictures with the person that ordered the hit.
