It is absurd, here in the US we merely limit it to insults like "whimp" and "fruitcake". I think silliness like this is one of the reasons why there is so much opposition to Australia becoming a republic with a politician as head of state. I don't blame them, this is supposed to be a legislative body not a middle school (aka "junior high") classroom.

I had the oportunity to visit Australia 2 years ago and got a rare chance to sit in and observe the common wealth parliament. What a joke! I have never seen so much fighting and low blow insults in my entire life. It was actually better than watching a comedy show. Highly paid politicians behaving like immature high school kids seems to be the norm these days and not just in Australia. These people have far too much influence and make far too much money for the rotten jobs they accomplish.
