73-year-old man guns down 5 in
southwest Arizona, kills self

A 73-year-old man shot dead five people around Yuma, Arizona, before turning a gun on himself, police said.

Another victim was flown about 180 miles northeast to a Phoenix-area hospital after being seriously injured, Yuma Police Sgt. Clint Norred said in a joint press release with the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

According to Yuma police, an "elderly male" went into a business in the city limits and shot an adult male. Police Chief Jerry Geier later identified this victim as Jerrold Shelley, a local attorney.

Arizona is hit again.

Police say these shootings are connected
but won't divulge how.

Interesting that one of them is a local attorney.

I wonder what drove this man to do this?

I hope we get answers soon.

so let's see what this attorney's specialties were.

Specialities: Visitation, Trial & Appeal Practice, Superior Court, Municipal Court, Misdemeanor, Licensed For Federal Court, Justice Court, Felony, Family Law, Drunk Driving, Divorce & Family
Brands: Divorce, Custody, Criminal Law, Criminal, Child Support, After Divorce Modifications

local.yahoo.com...

this reminds me of a post by ATS member
ofhumandescent who posted about
grandparents visitation rights in the
MEN & Child Support thread. This
attorney handled just such matters
as child support and visitation.

I wonder if this was the motive here ???

UPDATE:

A 73-year-old man's shooting rampage in towns near the Arizona border left six people dead Thursday, including the suspect and the attorney who represented his ex-wife in their divorce.

AP Link

there's your motive

the man got the shaft in a divorce
and killed the ex's attorney.

interesting. i have a feeling people can be driven insane after losing a child. particularly if you are forced to passively watch that child grow, unable to visit per se. i cant say from experience, but if he was after he attorney and it wasnt just a "coincidence" but thats about the age to not give a damn anymore. some grudges dont go away. im sorry for the loss... i just.... is it strange that recently there have been these shootings and in a state that is proud of its guns, i dont get how they are allowed to finish their spree, i just dont get it.... shouldnt this strengthen the opposition to gun control?? i mean yes, there will always be evil, thats given, but thats why the good people need to keep sed endless horde of evil in check. again, i just dont get it

edit.. posted after second post saint, gun control point still stands. good details

mixed emotions. sorry a man died. wish he chose a different career path...

many things have gone wrong for mankind when a person has to hire at great expense a person with a college education who also completed law school and passed the notoriously difficult Bar Examination & that specializes in a given category of Law, with no guarantee of outcome, in order to have representation.

Uh No! But I'm not living there currently.

I think the main reason this one made the news is because he is 73 - - and it was so geographically wide spread (for Yuma).

Its something you can sensationalize.

this further proves my theory that you don't mess with an old man, hes too old to kick your ass so he'll just shoot you.

I believe the shootings happened at several different locations in yuma.. I suspect the others he killed he had some kind of grudge with as well.

It seems he shot a lawyer - his ex - her boyfriend - his wife's friend - and himself - - - and I'm not sure who else.

If it has not occurred to you previously;
the rulers of commonwealth lack interest in regards to the termination of the existence of a single being or multiple beings that is not in direct affiliation to the rulers of commonwealth.

People his age do not get divorced too often. Maybe he married a gold digger?

can't say I didn't mention that very scenario
on page 1 of the MEN and Child Support thread.

a lot of fathers have resorted to taking
matters into their own hands. When faced
with divorce, they murder the wife and kids
then commit suicide in a ritualistic murder-suicide
scenario.

99% of the time, she is the one abusing
the divorce laws to her advantage.
What do you expect? The man to just
bend over ???

Marriage takes compromising on both sides.

Divorce should as well. But it isn't by law.

Why are you searching for excuses when it is so apparent that this act could potentially be skin deep?
Are you insinuating that one's desire to harm others without reason expires in time?
