The pic is from an 80's party and Im not satanic nor am I evil. It's just funny how people judged me based on my avy which was an actual pic of me!

You won't get any argument from me.
I was only kid during them but looking over the history
of the last half of 20th century it was like the 60 and 70 seemed like an uphill rise that seemed to crash in the 1980's.

Haha yes it was however I do like a lot of the styles from then even for today.

80's style clothing is in all the stores now only updated. I even saw parachute pants!!! They have shirts with shoulder pads which I think are horrible no matter how much you try to update them lol

I do like crimping...I crimped my hair with a vintage 1985 pink crimper! Took me an hour to do lol

Furthermore, this sophomoric argument misses one point...what does a soul have to do with theism? I mean, atheists can believe in souls, ghosts, fairies, spirits, etc. No gods doesn't mean no supernatural.

I don't think we have a soul. And even if I did think we had a soul it would not necessarily imply anything else about the universe. The soul itself could merely be a function of a body.

Because they're hurling abuse at me. It's hateful intent. It's an intent to bully other individuals. I don't really care whether or not I receive it, but I care that people go out of their way to send this vitriol against individuals who I think are nice people.

Because they're attempting to bully people. Hearing "You're going to hell!" isn't as bad as hearing it dozens of times for no reason at all.

I don't actually care. I care that people are getting them at all. I'm using the question of why I don't get them as a tongue-in-cheek way of expressing my surprise that other people are getting them.

I don't really care what people think, so long as they aren't trying to use it as harassment. My girlfriend's family is all devoutly Catholic, my own family (outside of my parents, uncle, and a cousin) are all quite Catholic as well.

But...they don't actually go out of their way to tell me things about going to hell.

Thats right Madness think of yourself first....

Send me a PM saying I`m probably going to Heaven and THEN I`ll send you one saying your probably going to hell.

Good point Madness. The Catholics usually don't. It seems to be the "charismatics" that do this more than any other. Of which I was one, unfortunately.

Ouch that has got to suck.

At first it was weird. But I just kept it to myself until someone tried to engage me in christian banter. That's when I would tell them that I wasn't the person they thought I was anymore. I was free of that now. It only took a few times of that for the word to get out.

I imagine that is the biggest hurdle for many to question or leave their faith their family and peers prevent them from doing so.

There is some truth to this. This is why the church and family members consistently want everyone in church. To keep the programming from breaking down. Those who stay away from church start questioning things. And we can't have that can we?

You lose all your social ties or face ridicule from those around you instead of acceptance for what you do or don't believe in.

It definitely changes the circle of people you associate with. I probably socialize more on ATS than I do otherwise. But then because of business, I'm around people all day long in a professional capacity. So I'm ready to stay home at the end of the day usually.

Children who are born into evangelical or fundamentalist culture never really get the chance to choose what they believe in and if they do depending on the culture they face ridicule or worse.

It's a shame. It really is. I was raised with the idea of god and the bible. Fortunately, I also had exposure to other perspectives. So even though I spent many years in "the faith", eventually, my exposure to science, history, and those other perspectives helped bring me out of the brainwashing once I allowed myself to begin questioning all the garbage I was taking for granted. Just glad I'm not there anymore.

Actually, the problem is that the new site design is chopping off a bit of the top on the last post in threads, I'm guessing they'll sort that problem out soon enough.

I don't get damned to hell by people (except for the comical messages I received following this thread by people who understand sarcasm). I have pretty decent relations with those of the religious persuasion. What I don't think is good is that there are people who are attempting to bully others into submission using their false threats of eternal torture.

Furthermore, to say that someone concerned with the attempted bullying and intimidation of others is saying "poor pitiful me" is to do something similar. To launch personal attacks instead of addressing the vitriol that others who are members of the same group that you so proudly attach yourself to is to basically scream at the world "I don't have anything to say so I'll do my best to distract from the issue itself"

Oh, and if I didn't have any arguments, I would have left this forum ages ago. I have been on this forum exactly 5 years longer than you have. I have somewhere close to ten times as many posts as you have. I'm not saying this to boast, I'm saying it to point out that, at the very least, some people think I have something to say.

Screw it, I'm sick of this. Put up or shut up. I'm giving you a challenge: A debate, this summer. Religious topic. Over the years, I've gotten a couple of "you're going to hell" comments sent to me via PM. I don't know what the sender thinks they are going to achieve by sending those to me, but I always reply by requesting that they "save me a front row seat".
