Authorities make changes after first responders watch man drown

www.cnn.com

Alameda, California, has immediately changed its policies after first responders watched a man drown in San Francisco Bay and did nothing to rescue him.
Two things prevented authorities from taking action, he said. First, because it was a crime scene, the police department was in charge. "They felt that going into the water initially might not be the best idea because they were unsure if this individual was armed, the stability of the individual," D'Orazi said.

What a crock of "S"
know what their excuse for not letting the firemen rescue this man was????

Local officials said that because of a lack of funding for shore-to-water rescue, firefighters had no one properly trained to go into the water, KTVU reported.

"It's muddy out there. We don't want them sinking. We don't want them in distress," Alameda Interim Police Chief Michael Noonan said in the KTVU report.

Yeah and maybe someone would have a crab pinch his toes... so policy made these first responders stand with their hands in their pockets...
a civilian, woman ultimately tried to save the drowning man, but was too late, and "SHE" ended up pulling his body to shore. so what are we paying the cops and fire department to do exactly???

Change thier policy? Now there is a novel approach! Any decent human being would have known what to do instinctively, case in point, the woman who risked her life while the paid members of the rescue team stood and watched. Dispicable!

Apparently they are getting paid to stand around with their hands in their pockets. Of course the police were in charge and it was a crime scene. what crime? Drowning is now a crime? He may have been suicidal. May have been? Anoother example of how incompetent the police are and unable to do any thinking. They either need to all be fired or quit what ever drugs their on.

So, a possibly armed and possibly unstable drowning person is allowed to die because first responders couldn't make a decision about the bureaucracy policies allegedly surrounding doing what is basically the job they are trained to do and there for? Something about this whole story is just whack. Wow. I just don't know what to say anymore.
