This is a propaganda story put out by a religious group.

There is no truth in it.

Is that your opinion or can you back it up with any facts, because if not the propogande is being put out by you...

Dear randyvs

I guess that all here are just about convinced that winning a million bucks on the lottery would be a good thing?

Well I would say it depends, you can look at the histories of some people who have won big prizes they do not always work out happy.

I live with a woman who is nuts about the local lottery and I tell you if she ever won it, it would be the worst day of her life.

Too handle money a lot of money or even a little for that matter you need a brain.

Not all are caperable and wining would lead to great sadness.

I prefer Epicurus: To have wealth above a normal level is like an overflowing cup.

I don't think it's assinine to think about the millions of people who are unaware of the Christian god and have to suffer because of the 'failure' of the missionaries/ cultural imperialisits...

Great. So now we have a God who will convert Atheists... for a million dollars a pop. I wonder which God he is? I need to know so I can cash in on this too.

Hmm... In that case, I am a super athiest. My fee is 20 million.

It's a coincidence.

ha, now don't get me wrong. I do believe in an after life and god.... but this is what you call a coincidence.

Well it's nice to get post from you that doesn't chastise me for once truth.

But I say anything you can call coincidence ,you can just as easily call synchronicity.

Aoraki

I don't think it's assinine to think about that either A. That's why I didn't say that partner.
Name calling never makes anyone look smart tho. I'm sure you know that but I have to express myself against it. Not to say I myself am not guilty. We all seem to manage it some how. Even if we try not too. But you really are taking a big chance wheather you believe or not. So...

Mac
That is very true. Money is not always a blessing. So to restrain from judgement would be wise.

Wow, this is completely stupid. Either this kid is a horrible critical thinker or the deity finally decided to start proving itself. I've honestly and earnestly prayed for proof, I've mock prayed for proof. Nadda. None of my prayers were for anything even remotely of that scale.

Maybe I should start praying for superpowers or fortune instead of simple demonstrations of existence.

Oh, or it's entirely false and a sign of 'lying for Jesus'.

Well maybe it's simply a matter of where you set your sights Madness. Then again you have to know the right way to pray and God knows the heart of every man. So.. But hey I agree to the stupidity. I only brought it forward for some fun in the arena. Try to enjoy.

Hey, we may or may not agree on a lot of things, but consider the fact that you always grab my attention, and always lead me to post, a compliment.

Whether I agree with you or not on an issue, I respect you and your opinion on any given issue. Which is why I do love to reply to you so much. If I did not enjoy reading what you have to say, and respect your opinion so much, I would not be so inclined to give you a hard time.

That said, get ready for this.... You make a great point! As easily as I call it coincidence, some one else could just as easily call it, divine intervention.

I guess, ultimately, we don't know what happened. The most any of us can do is speculate. Personally, while I do believe in God and an after life, I do not believe or follow any one religion. I just go with what feels right in my heart.

Honestly I do not believe that God interferes in our lives. If they did, that would also interfere with free will. So, on a personal level I call it a coincidence, but not everyone believes what I do. Some will say God does interfere, so to them, maybe God did pull this off.

Who knows. Either way, I understand this man has converted from atheism to Christianity and my personal belief is that he will be just fine either way...

So yeah, I see your point. Go figure

Right on Truth.
That's pretty much the way I am too. I try to follow Christ not others who follow him. I stumble everyday.

Ya! really! Or convinces mom to do so. She may have her objections, since he's the one who said the mock prayer and not her.

It is pretty obvious to me that God did this to point out the inherent flaw in our understanding of "him." We ask ourselves "How could God reward this man who didn't even believe in him, and yet allow all the suffering that goes on with those who are faithful?" When I look deeper into this, however, I see what we should be asking is "Why do we pray like we do, and hope that God will change everything, instead of actually following his message and changing things ourselves?"

Mind you, I do consider myself an atheist, as I do not believe in a power that is separate from, and higher than, the universe that we inhabit. My view of God is the collective universe as a singular system. The system has rules, and a blueprint (analogous to code in a computer system) that allows it to operate. We are a part of this system, and when we stray from the blueprint, the system comes up with ways to point us in the right path.

Anyhow, it's a paradox that we should learn from. Why would God reward someone who doesn't believe and prays once, and punish those who do believe and pray all the time? Because God doesn't work that way. "He" doesn't answer prayers, and this is just a coincidence. A perfectly planned and aligned coincidence.

Well, it is said that God delights in humbling the proud. If his belief was that God could do no such thing he would have been corrected. I asked God for evidence and I was given it in the form of stigmata. So why couldn't God have removed someone's obstacle in believing?

Why sell out to God, when I can sell my soul to the devil and get 100x better stuff..like fame and immortality?..

I'm sure praying for food does a whole lot for children in Somolia.I'm sure praying for a second chance does a whole lot for the innocent people locked up in prison for the rest of their lives. I'm sure praying does a whole lot for the millions upon millions living on poverty worldwide.

Excellent post. This is an angle I myself failed to see. Well done. One of the best points made in this thread Imo.

co-incidence, plain and simple.

too many people expect god to be a socialist.

or a nanny god. he isn't.

why this, why that, how come? whine!

belief will get you far in this life.

lots of platitudes and cliche's abound.

no one promised you a rose garden.

you make your own destiny.

poop happens.

good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good people.

see you in hell.

but that is good the kid converted. why not?

he felt his prayer was answered, probably made a promise if it happened.

good on him if he keeps it.

Some folks just hate the idea of their being a God. Then they say things like "Well if God is Real then he is a real bastard".... Its almost as if they are so proud that they feel like they can even begin to understand how God would think. It is strange that they assume like they would be on the same level of understanding as God. The very fact that they cannot seem to just enjoy a lighthearted, heart warming story about a woman winning the lottery is a sign of sickness if you ask me.

I think this nails it for me as well. Very well expressed. Anyone who thinks they can judge God has got to have a lil something wrong upstairs. Either you don't believe, stick to that and keep your mouth shut. Or you do believe
stick to that and voice your opinion. ( The reason you keep your mouth shut is you may be wrong ). I guess some think gloating will make their outlook more true). Very strange.
