I'm not quite sure if Karzai has understood the nature of this relationship.
Although he is very justified in saying that retaliation would be justified in the case of unwanted occupation, is he forgetting who put him in his
position, and who he is expected to answer to? (And, I'm not quite sure who gets to decide whether the "occupation" is wanted or not, but...)
I can only imagine that his message was intended for local viewing, and that behind closed doors he is assuring the players involved that all
contracts for the exploitation of Afghanistan's natural wealth and the assurance of a geo-politically strategical presence will be respected. (Unless
of course he has been receiving bigger envelopes from the likes of Russia and/or China?)
