Egyptian exec accused in attack on NY hotel maid

www.msnbc.msn.com

NEW YORK — A former chairman of one of Egypt's major banks was arrested Monday on charges of sexually abusing a maid at a Manhattan hotel, just weeks after the arrest of former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn on similar allegations, police said.

Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar is accused of sexually abusing the maid at The Pierre, a luxury hotel near Central Park and Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side, police said.

The maid was called to Omar's room Sunday night to drop off tissues, police said. But once inside the 74-year-old's room, police said Omar would not l

This is weird. Another banker accused of the same exact crimes that the IMF bank leader was.

Seems either there is some big conspiracy or something else. The same exact crime weeks apart, same proffesion, same type of victim, same type of location. This is too much.

I have never in the past heard of major bankers being accused of such a thing because they can pay for it. Not only this, he is from egypt..

Considering how close this event is from the previous one, I seriously have to wonder if it is a copycat event. I would be very curious in whatever physical evidence there is.

I don't think you guys are quite understanding that men with money think they can get away with anything. Usually they do get away with everything...... after all, they have money. Money in today's society not only walks and talks and dances.... but it also breaks laws, rules the world and does not have to answer questions.

Throw into that equation a monstrous little thing called "diplomatic immunity" and it is even more so.

Why pay for it when they are used to just taking what they want and stomping on the less fortunate is four-play to egos like these.

I'm not here to convince you. Research it. This battle has been going on for years.

Google diplomatic immunity

But anyone who does research it will find themselves infuriated afterwards... so be forewarned.

Top bankers are accustomed to immorally shafting people in a metaphorical sense, so is it any wonder that they will also physically attempt to do this to people ?

Although my above comment was intended to be facetious, there is actually some truth to it.

Some men in the upper echelons of politics, business, finance, even music and sport, get so deluded and drunk on power that they feel aggressively affronted if a woman rejects their lecherous advances.

''Do you know who I am ?'' is the mentality of these types, and a lot of them think that their high-powered position - and the preferential treatment that usually goes along with it - affords them impunity from the consequences of their nefarious actions.

This is crazy, dont these guys have maids in there own countries they can smack around. New York city is starting to look like a great tourist destination if you like beating down and raping hotel staff. I would expect these kind of stories coming out of Washington D.C. but New York whats happening in the big apple these days.

I have to say.. I think it's more likely a case of maids realizing who the client is and what could be gained. At least in this case.

Double standards at work much?

Head of IMF is publicly arrested and humiliated. Egyptian banker excused. Now, mm, why would that be?

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The only way that someone could reasonably respect this ideal is if you have faith in the fairness and impeccability of the justice system in your country. This means that you have to believe that police, lawyers, judges and other cogs in the wheel of the legal system are all paragons of integrity and fairness, and that the laws of the land are enforced correctly.

I'm not saying that the guy in question is definitely guilty of attacking this chambermaid. For all we know, this could be a case of a an opportunistic hotel worker, upon hearing that there was a high-flying financier staying at the hotel, cashing in on the recent allegations and that were made against Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Either way, my psychoanalysis isn't far wrong, and, more importantly, the belief that innocence and guilt can be reasonably and fairly ascertained in our current legal system depends entirely upon your personal belief in the integrity of the whole justice system, whether that be the standard of policing, the supposed enforcement of justice or the court system that decides one's fate...

THIS at a time when Egypt is performing "virginity tests" on women who were arrested during protests! What a bunch of immoral hypocrites!

It is fishy tho. Makes me think that these 2 men may run in the same circles with a penchant for these types of rondevoues. (Eyes WIde Shut) They may have been set up for sure, but I bet that they walked into that trap.

Remember when Larry Flynt offered a reward for incriminating photos of Rebulicans? I bet its something along these lines.
