What concerns me right off the bat about this article, is that it appears to be an open endorsement of the pilot program. There is no question as to whether or not we should even be doing this in the first place, and no reporting on precisely what protocols will be implemented when testing is completed. In this day and age of excessive abuses against citizens and police-state mission-creep, I hardly feel compelled to let them put us on yet another slippery slope. Domestic violence propaganda invokes a classic knee-jerk response by the layman, which allows for the powers that be to convince the people that this is "for your own safety."

the test was already done, sex offenders are tracked with gps via the jessica lunsford act. all things like lists, gps tracking, etc is tested out on sex offenders, and noone objected, after all, 'its for your protection', right?

This isn't a test of law, but the deployment of the test phase of the technology.

EDIT to add:

This is also not about sex offenders.

No I do understand that.

They are deploying a new tech system. And, as you said, for the first time outside of sex offenders.

There are two companies trying to get the contract. The favored system already fielded is by an Israeli company. The other, less favored but less expensive is a local company according to a DV activist.

Here is a link which suggests cronyism int he deployment of the tech.

Personally though, I am far more concerned about the implications of moving the goal posts along than I am about what system will be used.
