Come on Sminkey..... Someones Web Blog is hardly a credible source either. However, you are correct, you and I have no idea of the offset package either firm offered. However, much like the US tanker contract, another bidder was selected simply to put pressure on Boeing. Airbus did the same. While my comment was not a rail per say on unfair sub. etc.. It was a responce to Hyperon talking about the Nimrod not having a chance in the MMA contract awarded to Boeing.




The A400M engine selection by itself speaks eloquently about the state of transatlantic defense relations. The general perception, probably accurate, is that the North American bid never had a chance, and that Airbus�s objective in encouraging this bid was to pressure European engine contractors on price. The Pratt & Whitney Canada bid was about 20% lower than the EPI bid, and although EPI did not meet Pratt�s price, it came down enough for European politicians to help make the case for a European solution.

I found the making a Nimrod MR4 particularly interesting.

    Is it just the angle the picture is taken at or do they bother to change the shapes in different versions?

    The pic shows 8 Sidewinders under the wing so probably a render.
