This decision sounds absolutely sound to me. Women's sports, by definition, are an inferior version of men's sports, so they need a bit of marketing to make money.

The actual sporting quality of women's tennis, for example, is absolutely dire; I would beat most of the ''top'' female pros. So women's tennis successfully markets itself on the ticket of nubile young women in short skirts physically exerting themselves and grunting and moaning as if they were in a porn audition.

If anybody seriously believes that women's sports are popular for any other reason than the participants' sex appeal then you really need to have a strong word with yourself.

What is outrageous?

The fact that they will be enforcing a uniform? Or that the uniform will be used as a marketing tool?

Um...welcome to sports. This has been common practice since professional sports inception.

Or is it only an issue because it is about women and women's sports?

What about fencing? It was the woman's team who brought us the olympic gold.

I'm rather shocked by your view non the less. Women play sports quite well. The most winning team in all of professional baseball history was a woman's team.

These are just a couple examples off the top of my head.

It is about just the fact that the issue is about women. It is very typical. I am sure I will not score any brownie points for what I am going to say, but the fact is women complain anytime their sexuality is used as a marketing tool but are the first ones to use their sexuality for an advantage if it suits them.

Be honest... of the women here who are saying this is outrageous, how many of you batted your eyelashes and flirted a little to get out of a speeding ticket?

It's time the women decide to stop shaving and start putting on the pounds. Then see how smart of a 'marketing move' it was.

But then they would be bad badmitton players and the market for it is kind of tenuous...Why not be able to design your own uniform? Make it like roller-derby.

That was kind of mean spirited. Badmitton, I would imagine, might be a sport where women could dominate? I have no idea. Your analogy of tennis is right on but it isn't an issue of popularity. In your example, by definition, womens sports are inferior to me; a couple of short shorts is going to change that? Who gets all randy watching womens volley ball? They look like what they are: athletes.

ever watch womens tennis ? I swear they get 1,567 % more camera shots of them bending over from behind getting ready to return serve than the men do !!!

pretty much made kournikova a star

It actually is a very smart marketing tool....but it's also sexist. Personally, I've always gotten the impression that China is rather prim and proper compared with most of the West. Dunno how female athletes showing their underpants every ten seconds (because that's exactly what's going to happen) will go over.

The PC world we live in sucks when a man can't look at hot chicks...

Sure. Of course, when we say "sex sells" we are referring to, "sexy chicks sell". fairly demeaning. Grow up? Yes I have heard of Serena Williams, point? Regarding your last point, open your PC, click in google for "free porn". Problem Solved!

So you mean they're forcing players to wear uniforms just like every other sport in existence? How dare they! Those sexist bastards!

Men's sports are all about raw masculinity and testosterone fueled chest-beating for the most part. Women's sports generally take a more subtle taste to appreciate. As for women's sports being inferior versions of the men's sports, I'll take women's tennis, golf, or soccer over men's any day. Those type of sports just aren't as conducive to raw masculinity as, say, American football or hockey, and it shows.

Well with all things being equal...

The male players should wear skirts too.

Just think of all the attention the sport would get !

It's a great marketing ploy.

I really don't see how this is any different than men being forced to wear helmets and shoulder pads in football and long socks and shorts in soccer.

Can you wear shorts and run? Think man, think. It's badmitton.

They shouldn't be forced to show their underwear. If it was 'skorts' they had to wear, then I wouldn't see the problem.

Where did it say anything about forcing them to show their underwear? It even said they were allowed to wear shorts underneath their skirt. Again, not any different than any other sport's uniform.

Edit: As someone who's played sports growing up, I don't really see the problem. I've worn the tight baseball pants, the tight football pants, and the short soccer shorts with the long socks. Did I complain? No. If you don't want to wear the uniform then don't play the sport.

Sorry, I didn't read the article thoroughly. I assumed they would be forced to show their underwear because it doesn't make sense that they would try to use the skirts as a marketing tool if they're allowed to wear shorts underneath. It seems that the skirts would actually cover more than if they just wore shorts.

women on women though. UCONN didn't beat the mens team, they beat other women. The women beat other women in fencing also. There are top female athletes out there, i'll admit that but why do you think there are rarely any matches that set women up against men? Physically men dominate most women. There is no denying any of that that from any parties. I could go to say that men have brought the most multiple gold medals home in the olympics, or men score more points in basketball but that isn't really much of an argument.
