Senate panel OKs controversial antipiracy bill

As expected, the U.S. Senate's Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to approve a bill that targets Internet pirates based overseas.

The Protect IP Act looks to hand the U.S. Department of Justice the ability to seek a court order against allegedly infringing Web sites. The order could be served on search engines, certain Domain Name System providers, and Internet advertising firms--which would in turn be required to "expeditiously" make the target Web sites vanish from the Internet.

And it wasn't even a close vote. It was an unanimous vote in the committee... and it'll be almost unanimous in the house and senate, just like the patriot act, you can be sure of that.

Who's REALLY behind this bill :

The bill was backed by leaders of both major political parties and is supported by a wide range of industries, including the film and music sectors. Backers of the legislation say that online piracy cuts deeply into their profits and kills jobs.

"The small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, software designers, local journalists and every other segment of the creative community support the (Judiciary committee's decision) today," said Sandra Aistars, director of the Copyright Alliance, a group backed by varying copyright owners.

The elite really hates free internet. Free internet is exposing their lies.

And I know people here will say that it doesn't matter, people can get around the restrictions... yeah... SOME PEOPLE... those who are not sheeple. The vast majority of people 95%+ will not be able to go around it, and that is the goal.

Not to mention, they will be able to CLOSE any websites they want. ANY WEBSITE... and you can't go around that... yeah you can set up mirrors, etc... but come on, they'll track you down and come to your house and jail you.

And this ain't just the US doing this, it's the whole G8...

the us government is the biggest entity that infringes on property rights.

i think this is the first step in taxing the internet this country is in dire need of revenue

and the internet is one of the biggest cash cows in the world.

the funny part here is the china leads the world in intellectual property theft its not those people downloading movies and music
