NY Officials Want Schools to Teach About Unwanted Baby Laws

New York officials are proposing that high school curriculum include lessons on what mothers can do if they give birth to a baby they don't want
Last weekend, a baby was thrown eight stories down a Brooklyn housing project trash chute and discovered hours later.
His mother, 18-year-old Laquasia Wright, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
another newborn was found in the trash at a Queens hospital.
The mother, Dawa Lama, 23, was arrested.
Now we have reached the point where we need to educate people that it is not OK to throw a baby in the trash.
The standard we are currently holding people is so low it is amazing. Here you have two women, both adults who upon giving birth to a child (both in a hospital) take the child home and toss it in the garbage, killing one of them. Is a couple of hours in a high school going to change that? Can moral depravity be corrected by a class room lecture? Did these girls not speak with anyone during their pregnancy about their desire to have a child?
How about a visit to tax payer funded Planned Parenthood?
It is absolutely tragic that these children suffered the fate they did and tragic when ever a child is born who is not wanted.
Providing public instruction (in schools where attendance rates are lower than 50%) to girls that it is OK to drop their child off at the hospital, while having merit if it saves the life of children, simply reinforces the notion that actions have no consequences, none.
We have created a society with absolutely separate mores and treatment by the government. On the one hand, you have the government, via the IRS, ripping apart the lives of tax payers for improperly filed/paid taxes under the guise of mandating responsibility down to the smallest detail. On the other hand we have a government that purposefully excuses essentially all deviant behavior from another group.
The irony is that the government harrasses the first group and penalizes them in order to fund the society that enables the latter to live without any consequences.

I read this too and I was like WTF! Its bad enough that these girls and boys can’t keep their # together and NOT GET PREGNANT but now the state is
going to teach them how to properly abandon their kids?!?

Do you have any idea what it's like to be a 14- or 15-year-old girl who gets pregnant and fears the repercussions of her parents, school, church, boyfriend, classmates, and society in general? It can get pretty scary for a young girl.

Getting pregnant in certain segments of the population is a status symbol, not something that generates scorn. It certainly is not something that is going to get a young girl in trouble with her father, since the majority of children in these communities grow up with out them.
On that point, where was the father of these children? Did they not know they were having a child? Where they in the hospital when it was born? Did they spend any time with the mother and child after they came home from the hospital?
What was scary to these women was that having to take care of a child was a burden they simply did not want to bare.
We are quite adept in this society at excusing the absolutely inexcusable.

these are the people that raise gangbangers, hoods, and robbers. why do we even allow them to procreate? talking about all of the ignorant people of
the human race, its time we put a check on whos responsible enough to care for their children and stop the ones who arent from burdening the rest of
us.
How sad that in this day and age anyone would feel the need to dispose of a baby, let alone have to be taught what to do if they don't want it.
Although I have to say having a baby and giving it away is a taboo, maybe if it wasn't, you wouldn't get people throwing their offspring away.
Advising or educating girls what to do, when they have an unwanted baby can only be a good thing. Thats not to say that even when given the option of
reliquishment, that the girls would use that option.

You seem to know quite a lot about these girls. Was there another source you read or do you have something to back up what you're saying here? I'm puzzled. Surely you're not just assuming all this based on this short article?

Maybe they had post partum depression? It does strange things to a usually sane person.
Planned Parenthood is the answer. People need to be educated on the various ways to avoid and deal with unplanned pregnancies. Do you realize how many
people don't realize that they can get contraceptives for free from clinics? Do you realize how many people don't know that it is perfectly okay get
an abortion if you want to within the first trimester?
