Just like children, sometimes people need to learn and figure stuff out on their own. No big deal.
2nd line.

go ahead and then post your pics for us to see.

Area 51 is not secret, it STILL doesnt exist! (according to our government)

I think its funny you can be literally touching a sign that says You Are Now Officially in Area 51 but the government will still say it doesn't exist.

Area 51 is just the public face of the real facility, S4

People seem to believe the signs mean they have a right to shoot you. I hear this in just about every documentary on TV or interview with someone that has no clue what they're talking about. Every Air Force installation that has ANY restricted area (Priority A, B or C) has the same WARNING sign that includes "Use of deadly force is authorized". But I can tell you from my 10 years experience as an Air Force security specialist (or SP... now called SF for security forces), that the chances of any SF personnel ever taking a shot at you is slim - unless you are within close proximity of what's protected and have 'opportunity and capability' to damage or steal something sensitive. Even then, SF personnel are instructed to use the minimum amount of force necessary to prevent access or sabotage. If you're banging on one of the hanger doors with a sledge hammer and don't stop when security gets there, at that point you might get shot. But discharging a round purposely in peace time on an Air Force installation is something that almost never happens.

Please tell me no one here believes in the whole Bob Luzar "S4" garbage. Area 51 is a lot of things, but it was never a place where our government reverse engineering "other-worldly" spacecraft. The more recent 'unclassified' documentaries and books are a bit more accurate; The based was primarily set up to test U2, A12 (SR 71), F117, B2, and through Black projects. Hard to say what they're developing now, but I can tell you that not everything is being developed at Area 51 any longer. Take a look in Google Earth at Michael AAF and check the history of those images. In the last five years, they've re-paved another very long runway next to an adjacent more commercial sized runway. Considering the nature of that base in the past, it's very remote and not many people are going to trek through an area that was once a test site for chemical and biological weapons.

I live in Las Vegas and have made the trip to Rachel many times over the years. Most of what is stated here is true. There isn't much of anything going on out there MOST of the time. I've camped the dry lake bed across the road every time. Cool place to shoot guns and do awesome donuts and powerslides. I have seen tons of really cool aircraft doing manuevers from F-15's, F-16's, F-22's (years ago before they we common knowledge), B1B's and I've seen plenty of security helos especially after our target practice sessions begin.

But most remakably we have witnessed manuevers of foreign aircraft there as well. Such as the French Mirage, British Tornado, even Russian MiG-29's and Su-27's. Also, over the years my wife and I have gotten friendly with two different older couples who run the Little A'le'inn. Between both couples, they all insist there is NO military base there at all.

I am familiar with the local geography and the locale of the nearby "legitimate" military installations such as Indian Springs, Nellis Gunnery Range, Nellis AFB, etc. The flight patterns of the aircraft I have seen in Rachel are not indicative of originating or terminating at these locations. So, there is certainly SOMETHING there. I've been to the base perimeter, seen the orange markers, have pictures of the signs, camo dudes (still there as of Nov. 2010) and listening devices. I don't think anyone would place all of those assets in the middle of nowhere to impress a few wandering sightseers.

I find the fact that the couples deny any existence of a base peculiar. Also, if the government is experimenting with foreign aircraft and presumably captured state-of-the-art Russian aircraft, that leads me to believe that IF an alien craft were "captured" it probably would end up at good ole Area 51.

P.S.
The "Janet Jets" are very real. I see them taking off and landing at McCarran everyday.
