So you could not see the riot stick being used on that guy? take another look, the cop on the right of the vid has his riot stick in his hand, looks like the cop is jabbing the guy on the ground with it.

They're not cops, they're Security Guards. Crowd reaction was perfect, but I have to wonder what would they've done with real cops.

I think we are somehow coded to "understand" & "fear" police, but are instantly outraged by over-force executed by security guards.

4 on 1

40 on 4

Same difference. Cops wanted to pick a fight, they got one. But then the cowards ran away ?

But it sure is ok for the cops to mob people all they want to, and keep beating the crap out of someone when there are already five of them holding him down?

Umm, no. Good crowd, good deed, and it's time for the cops to learn a lesson. And I agree with Vitch. This SHOULD happen everywhere there is needless cop brutality, except in this country (I assume that video was another country) it is a lot tougher to do when the cops all have guns to back that uncontested brutality up. And they'll kill you with them in a situation like that video, no questions asked. The cops would have pulled guns, killed a bunch of people, and gotten out of there untouched. And then they would come back with all the cops there are, killed a few more, and arrested the rest. And if things got REAL out of hand, then hey, the cops got tanks, sound weapons, and all kinds of nasty things still to go. C130's and Apaches if need be from the National Guard.

Again, the Oathkeepers are not enough.

Millions of gun owners and vets outnumber every military in the world. A time may come when the crowds aren't punching.

From 0 to nation bashing in 6.8 seconds.
And this is why we have so much wonderful constructive discourse on ATS these days.

This is a soccer match - and soccer fans don't put up with sh*t!

However, the cop (or security guard) who was doing the baton beating of the the first pitch invader escaped without any injuries - ran off like a coward. The cop who got beat up wasn't actually involved in the first incident...

Ironic.

Two wrongs do not make a right

I agree...the mob mentality is stupid. There's a right way to approach a problem in numbers without engaging in primitive and uncivil behavior. I only saw one cop hitting him, but the mob attacked them all viciously. The only thing this incident will do is give the police force an excuse to seek retribution against the people. Violence, in most cases, is not the answer.

Even though I agree with people stepping in to prevent police abuse, this was over the top.

Nothing wrong with restraining the cops until they decide to step down, but they do not deserve the kicking I saw in that video.

The crowd in this case behaved worse then the police, sorry to say.

This should happen EVERYWHERE people see cops brutality for no reason.

Freaking cops are not above the law.

Thanks for posting this vid, after seeing all the cop vids where they abuse thier power, this makes me feel so much better, PEOPLE THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO WHEN WE SEE THE POLICE DOING SOMETHING THAT YOU DONT AGREE WITH,

In mathematics, when you multiply two negatives ( - x - = +) the resulting answer is a positive. In this case, that is just what happened, if the cops that were beating the innocent protester, etc had accomplished its mission without the public beating the cops, then the end result would have been: (- [negative] the guy got beaten) x (+ [positive] the cops didn't got beaten) = (- [negative] Justice to the victim that got unjustly beaten by the cops was not served).

So, I agree, EVERYWHERE where cops mis-use their authority, the cops should be beaten by as many people as possible in the scene.

Well, have you ever heard that a PROBLEM cannot be resolved utilizing the same level of existence/numbers that created it. In this case, the problem (the police brutality) got resolved utilizing a level of existence far greater than what created the problem, and I mean FARRR greater, by the tune of over 100~300 people.

A star and flag for a well-deserved ass-beating.

"Oh no, he's running on the field, we need to beat him with sticks!"

I... Well, i'd like to say I second the motion that thisneeds to happen in all cases of police brutality, but I think i'm a bit late to second, so I'll just add to the "ayes"

Police brutality is a danger to everyone. I don't know how this fact seems to elude so many of the "deep thinkers" here on ATS. One cop, just one who gets away with beating the crap out of a guy, is a real danger to the entire community. And if the police themselves will not address that problem as they should (and they never do) then who does it fall to?

You call it "mob justice" - I call it society defending itself.

Either the police can get serious about thinning the thugs and rabid animals from their ranks and putting them in the prisons and psych wards they need to be in, or the public at large can just kick the crap out of those cops and the cops protecting them.

Is that what I said? learn to read before posting. I said it looked to me like they were jabbing him in the ribs with the baton because he was resisting. And I stressed the point, what it like TO ME. It's just funny to me how many people want police brutality to stop but advocate a mob beating. I've already said the police didn't NEED to use that force but a few jabs with a baton are a lot different than getting booted in the head. So to all the people who are so "proud" of the crowd, I expect you to do the same next time you see something like this happen. If you REALLY believe things need to change then take a stand. Stop talking and do something. Or will you just continue to hide behind your computer and furiously jerk it to videos like this?

That was sort of magical. I think witnesses defending someone getting man handled by cops is amazing. At the same time, this one could have gotten super ugly. 20,000 (guess) people could have seriously killed someone. I think when we see someone getting beaten by cops, it is our duty as humans to interupt, and get the playing field back to the basic. in this case it would have been, "ok man, that was fun running on the field, we're going to escort you off the field now."

I got curious about the when and where and found this:

Posted by badminton&klum on 07/19/2004 at 10:33: Security people got mad again ... Bloody Friendlies GENEVA - Violent rioting between security and fans left the game between Benfica and Etoile Carouge end unfriendly. It was just a football game between unequal opponents. The top European club Benfica against first division side Etoile Carouge Geneva. But suddenly, shortly before the end, a Portuguese fan ran on the pitch, the sport is not in the focus anymore. Several security guards chase the fan across the lawn. When they get hold of him, they push the man to the ground. Then one of the Protectas men is beating up his baton on the fan. That's enough: The raging football mob storms to the field and gives chase to the security people. Some of the Protectas men can save themselves in the catacombs. But one is beaten by the spectators heavily with fists and kicks. He and two of his colleagues have to go to hospital. Finally, the Geneva police can put an end to the mass brawl. The friendly game ended with a 2-0 victory for Benfica Lisbon.

So this world changing event happened seven years ago.
Those guys were security, not police.
The police calmed down the situation after the scene we saw.

Apart from this it made me smile to see how the hunters became the game...
