Washington State takes the next step towards socialism; Parents now have to get a doctors signature for vaccine exemption

I am a good parent. I care about my children and their health. It is MY decision whether to vaccinate them, with the understanding that if an epidemic were to break out that they were not 'protected' against, they could be kept from school to prevent spreading it. Understood.

What I DO NOT understand, is how my State politicians think it is their right to tell me that I can not make that decision on my own. As of July of of this year, it is going to be required that all exemption forms be signed by a physician, stating that they have advised me of all the risks of NOT vaccinating. WHAT????!!!!

Oh, if I am of a religion that doesn't allow me to go to a doctor, that is another exemption, but I have to prove it. For cryin out loud!

What if I don't have insurance? What if....(just humor me here) I am an intelligent, well educated individual that has researched, explored and already discussed all of this with numerous physicians? I am more than capable of making the decision on my own. What is happening to our country? What is happening to our civil rights? Where is this going to END? I am SICK of it!

My kids have all of the normal required vaccinations (I wasn't as educated back then) it's only the (I think) unecessary 'boosters' that I have chosen not to put into thier bodies. I have been given a hard time by the pediatrician, doctors I worked with (I have worked in healthcare for years) and even the school nurse!

We are SOOOO brainwashed that we just go along with what our 'government wants'. Wake up...it has NOTHING to do with keeping our kids safe. It is all about the profit that the pharmaceutical companies stand to make, who in turn FUND the campaigns of the politicians passing the laws!!!! It makes me sick.

On May 10, 2011, Governor Gregoire signed a bill that requires a licensed health care provider to sign the Certificate of Exemption for a parent or guardian to exempt their child from school and child care immunization requirements. The signature verifies that the provider gave the parent or guardian information about the risks and benefits of immunization. A parent or guardian can also turn in a signed letter from a health care provider stating the same information.

The law goes into effect on July 22, 2011. It only applies to exemptions requested after this date. A health care provider doesn't need to sign the form for parents or guardians who demonstrate membership in a church or religious group that does not allow a health care provider to provide medical treatment to a child.

You do know what Socialism is, don't you? And that there are as many different forms as there are types of bread.

I wouldn't have a child of mine nor myself vaccinated under threat of death...I may die for not doing it but it will be a quick death, not a lingering one like with those poisonous Vaccines...This mess has got to stop.....There is no difference in this than what Jim Jones did with the kool-aid....

What in the hell are the stupid a$$'s scared of..If all the children are vaccinated against something I thought this was suppose to stop them from getting it....So, if my child has it no other child that has had this god like vaccine shouldn't be able to get it...Thats not the reason..They want to screw up your DNA and immune system, thats all....

This is happening all over and it has been for a while. I think they are just to the point where they have to make a law. Before now fear mongering was plenty.

I will be turning 30 in a few months and have chosen to not have children for this very reason. Because I'm an adult, I am (mostly) able to make decisions regarding on my own health and well-being, however, this is not true for my offspring.
I couldn't do it. I couldn't knowingly bring a life into the world that ultimately I would have no power to help. I spend enough time trying to keep myself healthy and fix the first 18 years of my life when my parents (bless them) just took me to a doctor a let them have a go.
I see how pregnant people treat their bodies. They have absolutely no regard for the human life living/growing inside of them. *Disclaimer: I'm sure there are around 3-4 good mommies at any given moment.

Just recently someone told me there were forms I could fill out that would allow me to make the decisions about MY child, in the event I wanted to have one. Absolutely crazy! If I lived in a free country... or perhaps so far removed from 'civilization' I would give it a go. I just can't bear to bear a slave.

I'm so sorry this has become reality for you. I bet you can find a doctor to 'tell you all the problems' and sign a little piece of paper. Good guys exist everywhere- at least that's what I'm banking on.

And if everyone who is so scared of "socialists" thought this way, which by all accounts is alot, then vaccine uptake would be low, meaning the disease would still spread easily.

On the plus side, if it only infects the right-wing bible thumpers, who really only hate Obama because he is black and are so hell bent on being scared of something, then that's a good thing.

I think that when most americans refer to socialsm, we are speaking of the most commonly recognized marxism:

I believe that I, like many others, see socialism as the attempt to remove our civil rights and turn us into a state of social programs that require no responsibility or contribution to society by the receiver. I see it as the dumbing-down of our society and making us dependent on a government to tell us what to do and how to do it. Heaven forbid we be allowed to think on our own.

it seems you think people that dont take mainstream media as "bible gospel", or question the validity of obamas long form (whitehouse released) birth certificate (due to 1. text kerning 2. "african" used in the 60s? more like "negro" back then 3. "kenya" written in "61" even though it was established in 63) have little knowledge of what they are actually saying, but i think that people like you have little knowledge of the global situation that you and the generations before you have manifested upon yourselves. the situation of near socialism has become the "scenery" for you for so long that it is closer to "normal" than "outrageous" for you.

Yes, please explain how this is "socialism." Where i live, vaccinations are REQUIRED to attend school. I had them, and everyone else i know had them, it's a part of the process. Without them, you are not allowed to attend, period. Of course, i suspect these are

the normal required vaccinations

of which you speak, but this neither addresses which are the "normal" and which are not. As far as i know, if one wishes to attend school without getting the necessary "normal" vaccinations (MMR, etc), one has to get a physician's note. These vaccinations exist for a reason (prevent spread of disease/infection), and i can certainly understand the concern (i would have it too) if they wanted everyone to start getting swine flu, standard influenza, etc in order to attend, but i see no details in this article that specify the vaccinations to which it applies, the vaccinations from which one must get a physician's note to be exempt.

Wanna go to school/want your kids to go to school? Get the Vaccinations. Been that way a looooong time.

Actually, i do not see the big deal in this or the big deal being made, because it isn't any different than what is currently in place, nor is it seem like socialism..

Of course, if they start requiring the vaccinations i mentioned earlier (standard flu, swine flu, etc), then i will start becoming concerned.

Marxism is sooooo 19th century...

Socialism has moved on since then and some of the most democratic and best places to live in the world are Social democracies. It just shows a general lack of intelligence to assume that Socialism, in any form, leads to Communism. It's also betraying the "I'm alright Jack, sod everyone else" mentality that those who cry about Socialism seem to have.

Oh, I'd also look up the word racist too, as it seems that's another word where you're not familiar with the meaning. If anything, I was being a bigot by using the term "bible-thumper", but that would be a stretch.

I understand what you are saying....but you need to read again what you wrote. Especially at the end. This is the problem. It started out with the 'normal' vaccines. (polio, mmr, dpt), but have continued to increase over the years. Now they also require hepititis A, chicken pox (whithout proof of prior infection) and addition boosters to name a few. This past year there was talk of adding the flu and swine flu to the list.

It is coming. This new law only paves the way to make it easier to enforce.

Washington state has NEVER required it. It has always been optional, as I believe it should be.

If there were to be an outbreak of something they have not recieved a booster for I would get them tested to see if their antibodies were high enough. If they weren't, I would either have to get the booster for them or keep them out of school until the threat passed. I would be responsible about it.

We as a society are becoming WAY to comfortable with being told what to do and how to live without thinking for ourselves and asking WHY. So long as we are promised money, programs and better gadgets we just accept it.

Haha, so by mentioning the fact that some Americans don't like Obama because he is black (I've seen enough interviews with Southerners who have said as much), that makes me a racist? No, it doesn't.

They're not though, are they? "Forced" upon you? But you can be exempted by your GP, as you state in your OP. So how is this being forced?

Also, please provide some evidence to show that the Vaccines are any more unsafe than any other medication or procedure. Given the sheer amount of people vaccinated worlwide, you would think if they were unsafe that it would be bloody obvious.

Personally, I have had all my vaccinations as a kid, yet I still live. As does everyone in my family. I do not know anyone personally who has ever had a bad reaction, let alone died.

I've heard of isolated cases of such things here, but there is only ever a couple a year out of hundreds of thousands done in the UK, which is statistically certain, as with any medicine.

I'm willing to bet, without even checking the figures, more people die from reactions to over the counter pain killers than from vaccinations.

herein lies the problem. Adverse reactions happen on a daily basis, but go unreported. I am not about to spend the next untold hours going through mountains of information to try and convince you. It is all there at your fingertips....YOU have to take the time to educate yourself. Don't want to? Go back and look at some of the excellent threads right here on ATS that outline numerous personal accounts, studies and terrifying reports.
(Just because you haven't been struck by lightening doesn't mean it doesn't happen)

My point, is that I shouldn be FORCED to go to a physician and have him sign a waiver for something that is MY right to decide. ANOTHER one of my rights was just signed away by someone who stands to profit from it. The majority of parents out there are not near as outspoken as myself and haven't taken the time to actually look into this issue. When faced with a doctor telling them it is what they should do, most will do it. The pharmaceutical companies know this. Washington State (until now) has the highest exemption rate in the nation at 6%, this is why we are being targeted. Look for that number to go WAAAAAAYYYY down this next year, and the profits to go UP!

I think you have failed miserably in a basic reading comprehension test. I said some people bandy around the term socialist because they don't like Obama, some of whom simply because he is black. Prove me wrong, because I can find plenty of evidence to swing it my way.
