Eric Cantor Refuses Aid To Joplin Victims, Until He Gets His Political Agenda

christwire.or g

On Monday, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said that Congress would not approve funds for disaster relief without budget cuts elsewhere. “If there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental,” he said.

THIS is the beyond words!

Get out of our government. Shame on anyone who votes for this man ever again and I will do my best to make sure his actions today haunt him for the rest of his political career. Please, do the same. We need to yoke people with the burden of their evil time and time again, until it drags them so deep in the muck that their political careers are ruined and they will be forever seen as guilty in the court of public opinion, which is career death for any politician.

What part of "there is no money" do you not understand? I am all for helping these people recover from this disaster, but the money has to come from somewhere. As I understand it, he wants the money to come from somewhere instead of borrowing more money that we just cannot afford to do. Think of it like this. You are flat broke, your credit cards are maxed out. Now your car breaks down. Does that give you the right to go and rob people to get the money to replace your car? I am all for DONATING money to charities to help these people. But GOD DAMN IT the government is broke. Wake up and understand that there is no money to give these people.

No! I am in complete agreement with ending all foreign aid. I agree with ending all corporate subsidies. However I also want to end all entitlement programs, so I am sure you will still find plenty to "flame" about with regard to my positions.

Good Lord I hope you are being sarcastic. That money is not "free". We borrow it at interest from the federal reserve. We cannot afford to keep digging this whole we are in. It needs to stop.

I am all for bringing the troops home, and I hope you know my opinion of the TSA by now. Even with that, we are still broke. We need to get our finances straightened out.

How much have you guys donated to the relief efforts?

Can you really be surprised that the same man who just voted to end medicare and medicaid...while at the same time supporting more tax cuts for billionaires and corporations would support this?

He draws no line in the sand when it comes to helping out his wealthy buddies or sending money overseas.

SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to see a tornado rip through that piece of garbage's house. He is the one who deserves to lose everything!!

I am not surprised because Republicans don’t care about ordinary middle class Americans. All the care for is the rich and powerful who keep them in office.

They don’t care for those poor hardworking Americans who are now destitute. Look at those pictures, it breaks my heart, and then this cold hearted pig, Eric Cantor . . . this republican lover of the rich dares to even suggest that my tax money shouldn’t go to them is abominable.

When are the American people going to realize the nature of the modern Republicans and stop voting for them?

The government is nowhere near broke but it is broken.
Cut military spending by 20% and quit sending troops to guard oil pipeline routes overseas, that should cover it and then some.
WE don't need to "donate" tax dollars to help our fellow countrymen, it's their money too and if they need help they should get it. Also, the politicians who represent this area need to grab a shovel or hammer and get to work instead of buffing their chairs with their asses.

I am not talking about donating tax dollars. I have and am donating my own money. You see that is the difference between a fiscal conservative and a liberal/socialist. I believe that it is my duty as a human being to give of myself to help my fellow man. Libs/socialists believe that it is their duty to take other peoples money/time/labor/sweat and give it away.

Interestingly, it looks like they did cut the money from another project, and $1 billion will be approved.

Today, by a bipartisan voice vote, the House Appropriations Committee approved $1 billion in disaster-relief funds for communities affected by the weather damage in the Midwest and other areas.

The $1 billion will be fully paid for by an offset. That offset is a $1 billion cut in a Department of Energy program called, "The Advanced Technology Vehicle Loan Program," which was in the stimulus package. It's a program both sides were willing to cut.

Msnbc link

And I'm o.k. with that.
Just like in any household, some "wants" get put off in order to take care of the "needs".
The aid was a need, and both sides made it happen.

For the first time in a long time, I actually agree with the decisions made by our Reps. today.

I found a church in Joplin that has a website. They opened their church as a shelter for the people who suffered loss. I sent them a nice check today. If everyone did that, they wouldn't need the government's handout. The church is called "Ignite". I had to do something out of thankfulness that my family is safe and well.

I saw a picture of a dead toddler in the street covered up after the storm. That breaks my heart and tears me up. Us Americans need to stand proud and take care of our own. Our government has made it clear they can't be depended upon.

I think they are referring to supplamental funding for Joplin, not the current FEMA assistance.

Long term..

and its a valid position... If we dont have the money, how do we pay for it?

Emergency operations are not affected by this, nor are any operations dealing with food, shelter, medical etc etc etc in the area. No one is going to lose their life over Cantors comments and position today.
