I was wondering if I would see a thread like this today. I live in Queens New York with a straight shot view to Manhattan. Loud sounds are the norm here so I don't give them much notice. Last night I was in Atlantic City (figured if the rapture was coming I should be at a slot machine with a cigarette and a beer) and when I went to the hotel room around 2am I was just falling asleep when I heard a low rumbling sound. I was on the 28th floor of the hotel and I put my hand on the nightstand to feel it rumbling. I won't lie. It really spooked me. As the OP suggested it went as fast as it arrived. I was up for a while after that and didn't hear a peep (save for the drunks returning to their rooms). It is highly interesting to me that others heard the same thing from other parts of the country.

I live in Las Vegas, and I have heard this noise a dozen times over the last two years. I used to live about 4 miles from the airport, and I work less than two miles from there. On ordinary days you can't hear the planes coming in and out of there, unless it is a military jet fighter ( which I have only heard three or four times over the last 6 years). Anyway, I could hear this noise and it was very loud and it must have went on for three hours plus at times. the most recent time was last week in the day, and it seemed to emanate from the airport. It was not a jet or airplane however because the droning sound was at a consistent level for over 20 minutes last week.
They are building another new airport next to McCarran, and I wonder if they are doing major underground work? The only thing that seems strange is that they just built a $8 billion set of casinos not much further north of there and they did what I would call MAJOR underground work at that site and I never heard anything like this from that project.

That's just it.. we can't really know how many testing facilities there are and where they are.

Reading through this post, I think I can solve this one. They were indeed hearing NASA, which is not too far from them. They normally are not able to hear anything that far away, but as a previous post pointed out the NWS issued an alert about the noise that day. In the alert, it blamed an unusual atmospheric condition causing thunder to be heard much farther away than usual. Obviously it was not thunder, but those atmospheric conditions indeed did exist, and the sound of the NASA testing carried much farther than normal.

So how does NASA explain what I heard here in Upstate New York?

NASA didn't explain anything, I just read through this thread and this is what I came up with, not NASA. As far as what you and others globally hear, I have no idea. I fully understand that this phenomena is occuring. I am only speaking to this one particular incident because I have heard this one and it sounds exactly like the NASA test video embedded. Given the atmospheric conditions, it does explain this case.

I am also in Las Vegas. Along the 15 (won't specify where) but they were doing a bunch of road work in March. The rumbling and shaking was so loud. We had notices sent to us at our apartments saying that the rumblings and shakings were occurring from that.

I won't talk about the other rumblings I've heard recently in the early mornings, 3am'ish, because I have not been fully coherent, but I thought it lasted too long for the usual planes going overhead. And all the road work had been completed ages ago so it's not that. I'm going to pay attention more now though and report anything unusual I hear back.

I read a really good intro thread a while back where this guy heard a similar noise and eventually tracked it down to a natural gas facility bleeding its pipe line. He recorded it all and posted video of the sound source.

It took me a while to find it because it got moved to skunk works???
Funny, it's one of the few posts that actually offers conclusive evidence???

Thought I would add it to your quest.

Ever since the lunar eclipse, I've felt more sensitive to noises. My ears are ringing, there's pressure in the back of my neck, and I feel light headed sometimes. I went to the dr to make sure something else wasn't happening but nothing has been found.

I'm up near Yellowstone and from time to time I hear things that sound like the trees are being pulled up out of the earth. I just do not talk much of it as I don't need people in my neighborhood thinking I'm crazy.

I went outside on the porch about an hour ago, 11:00 pm and could hear a low humming sound. I shouldn't be hearing anything since I'm outside of a small town.

I wasn't going to say anything about this, but since you said what you did I will.

I doubt it, but this could be related to the Mysterious Hum. It happens to people all over the world. I've dealt with it myself for a while, and it went away for about a year.

Well, it's been back for about a week or so. I say that I doubt this is related to the loud noise because I believe the hum (for me anyway) is related to stress. It certainly at least is made worse by stress. I've been sick the last few weeks, so that is why I believe it's back and will eventually go away.

It is not the same for me as it used to be though. Where as it used to pulse very slowly, now it's just a constant hum. Still very low. It's a joke to try to describe what it sounds like to someone else because the human voice can't reproduce the sound.

If it doesn't improve, then maybe I'll say the two could be related.

Wow finally! I heard this type of noise for the firsttime sometime in spring/summer of 2008. I was awoke in the middle of the night and thought a plane was about to crash into my area. I've heard these maybe 2-3 times since. Always waking my up from my sleep. I never mentioned it to my neighbors then the other day my neighbor mentioned exactly the same thing. It made him runt out on his bak yard to see what was creating it. He saw nothing. My husband never heard it and his wife never did either. Both were asleep at the time and when asked said no they ha not heard it. I also stated a thread way back about the noise like a distant engine that can br heard at night around my area. I'm at the outskirts of sthlm Sweden. I also live near a military base. S&F

It's funny, six pages in and people are still speculating. Aircraft. No, Americans have been surrounded by them all our lives and can differentiate between them, and sound originating from "all around" thank you for the noble attempt at an explanation.. (many 'local' news articles support this common trend in this occurance) Nasa, no, checked with them during key events already from earlier in this year, no scheduled launches. Weather, ok no, the most plausible explanation is haarp still. Not going to explain how in laymen's terms again, can do your own research. Good luck and I'd say maybe it could also be a large gas pipeline release of some type but late in the night that would seem odd.

Or it's a massive UFO

Did you check with NASA about this specific event?

In researching this, I found it interesting in the Bible (yes I know this isn't exactly everyones favorite source) thunder (rumblings) are used in only two ways: In the sense of weather (rain and thunder), and as the voice of God. Then in Revelation, every seal judgement caused a "sound like great thunder" when they are opened. Just kind of made me go hmmmm.

I live in Northern Indiana. I posted a month or so ago about the roar sound that I heard. It was 4:00a.m., and it was a low roar sound that lasted for about 1/2 hour. No train, no plane, no trucks, and it wasn't thunder. Very eerie.

Hey i live in northern Indiana too. I made a thread about the noise I heard. Sounded like a low flying jet just hovering and hovering, then just disappearing without a trace. www.abovetopsecret.com...

I love it.
It creates earthquakes,
Hurricanes,
Tornadoes,
Tsunamis,
Droughts,
Floods,
Fires,
Eruptions,
And now it generates mysterious noises in the sky.

Is there nothing that amazing HAARP can't do?

I live in PA and have never heard any hum at all, im waiting for it though.

Maybe it rains enough in PA so HAARP does not need to do any weather modifications

[It has been raining for about a week straight nonstop]
