New Zealand earthquake?

My Mother keeps telling me she saw on the news something about a big earthquake in New Zealand, Is there any truth to this? I keep searching but cant find anything, and shes pretty serious. She says it happened a few hours ago.

There was a 6.1 off the coast of NZ

Kermadec Islands (Latitude: -30.7751, Longitude: -178.1330)The 21 May 2011 at 9:17 PM (UTC), in Kermadec Islands there was a seismic activity of
magnitude 6.1 and depth 19.80Km.
Estimated population within 60km: none or few people.

But that was more than just a few hours ago

It was a 6.1, I'm too lazy to go back over to GLP for the link but it was a 6.1. Look for it around here

It was about 1000 kms north east of the north island in the Kermadec islands..
And downgraded to a 5.8..

3.9 quake in South Island.

and a 3.0 a few minutes later.

No biggie.

We get thousands a year, nothing to see, move on.

Yeah shes been stressing about this whole rapture thing lateley, She even called me crying about it at5 today. Just checking guys sorry if i startled anyone.

I would tell, her to take her meds, personally.

I'm in Christchurch.The only thing that has moved today is me and my wife. I could post a pic, but it would be against the T&C.

Shes torn between Catholicism, Islam, and Christianity. but the reason shes been so sad is because social services took all her kids and shes been fighting to get them back for years and she didnt want anything to happen before she sees them again. That's me assuming though. My mom is out there, i was just curious as to if there was any truth to it.

Thats quite a mix to be torn between! AorAki, your assumption actually seems kind of on the money ;p. Whatever she was watching would have been reporting the 6.1 revised down quake. As i'm sure she's aware, there is NO rapture.

Maybe so... and that is unfortunate. However, it was hardly "the masses" who got caught up in this hysteria. More like a small minority who were over reported by the media just to sensationalise this silly issue and sell a few more papers.

There was a time when people had tact and were sympathetic to others woes. It seems the age empathy and compassion is fast dying only to be replaced by narcissistic, gutless geeks, using the internet to bully from.
