I thought it would be helpful to perhaps newer people to the board or to the whole alien’s theories to have a list of UFO classifications and what they actually mean, hope you find it helpful.

The classification of UFO’S were mainly based on a system first used by a Dr J Allen Hynek in a book he wrote called “the UFO Experience”. There are other classifications that are used by other researchers such as Jacques Vallee (see link used at the end for both classifications)

NL (Nocturnal Light) – A visual sighting of a UFO at night time – 35 /40 % of UFO reports are these.

ND (Nocturnal Disc) - A simple visual sighting of a unidentified flying extended or structured
light source seen at night. (This is an extension to Hynek's system).

DD (Daylight Disc) – A sighting of a UFO with a distinct shape in daylight

Radar Cases - UFOs detected by radar alone. In more recent years fewer cases involving
radar have hit the press. This could be because of a number of factors,
for example the government is better at suppressing these reports, or there
has been a change in the nature of the phenomenon which makes it less
detectable or that many of the early reports were the result of spurious
events and false positives which are handled better by more modern
equipment.

Radar Visual Cases - UFOs observed visually whilst being simultaneously on radar. From Hynek's study these make up 1 to 2% of reports.

Close Encounter of the 1st kind ( CE1, CEI) – This is an observation of a UFO in the sky

Close encounter of the 2nd kind (CE2, CEII) – When a UFO leaves some sort of physical evidence behind, for example burn marks on the ground (were it touched down) or unknown materies left behind

Close encounter of the 3rd kind (CE3, CEIII) – The sighting of an occupant or suspected occupant of a UFO (sometimes refered to as UFOnauts). As well as entities seen inside a craft, entities have been described as sampling soil, rocks and plants or might communicate with the witness. These witnesses are sometimes referred to as contactees. As well as communication, the witness may report that they were invited on board a craft or even taken for a trip.

Close encounters of the 4th kind (CE4, CEIV) – An actual abuction of a person by aliens.

Close encounters of the 5th kind (CE5, CEV) – Sometimes referenced to someone of has had direct contact with an alien being or race. The close encounters of the fifth kind classification was proposed by Steven M. Greer, the founder of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence
