SAN FRANCISCO, May 17 (UPI) -- Doctors say a 45-year-old man in California may be the first person ever cured of AIDS as a result of the discovery of an apparent HIV immunity gene.

Timothy Ray Brown tested positive for the human immunodeficiency virus in 1995, but has entered scientific journals as the first person to have that HIV virus completely eliminated from his body in what doctors have termed a "functional cure," KCBS-TV, San Francisco, reported Monday.

This is huge!!! It has the potential to change medical science for years and its finally here. I have high hopes for this article and breakthrough, and can only hope it helps all those affected by AID's.

And before anyone starts bashing homosexuals, just remember that their are thousands of heterosexuals affected as well.

This is a big story! Too bad there is not much detail in the linked article.

I am guessing that we will be hearing more details later. I hope that they can isolate the antibodies that he apparently produced and create a working vaccine. S&F!

I believe he is referring to Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The ex-NBA player who has had HIV since the early 1990s but has not developed AIDs.

That should have been the first thing that popped into my head, thanks for the clarificaiton. Anyways I'm pretty sure he has not been cured.

The problem is, if we don't have that immunity gene... I'd assume the body would consider any antibodies we make from it to be hostile.

Then again I'd have to find out exactly what the gene does

Hopefully this can cure this stupid disease once and for all.

Yeh thanks, I understand that now haha.

There's been 100's claimed cases of AIDS victims being cured mostly through alternative treatments and extreme life style changes. Not sure how reliable they are but some have lived 10+ without developing symtoms and not currently on medications.

Again I am not saying they are legit, but it's certainly something to look into. If you want links just use google and type "aids cures" "aids cure surpressed" etc..
