Muslim women who dress like Muslim women are an affront to Western society but Amish women who dress like Amish women are just being good religious women?

You're using those quotes out of context. Surah 8 is about a specific battle, it is Not a command for all Muslims to follow.

various Hadith confirm this though I'll just post the shortest one.

Narrated Said bin Jubair I asked Ibn 'Abbas regarding Surat-al-Anfal. He said, "It was revealed in connection with the Battle of Badr."

Surah 8 is relative only to the battle of Badr.

An excerpt from wikipedia on the background of the battle for those interested in the history:

The Battle of Badr (Arabic: غزوة بدر‎), fought Saturday, March 13, 624 AD (17 Ramadan, 2 AH in the Islamic calendar) in the Hejaz region of western Arabia (present-day Saudi Arabia), was a key battle in the early days of Islam and a turning point in Muhammad's struggle with his opponents among the Quraish[1] in Mecca. In 622, with open acts of violence being committed against Muslims by the Quraishi tribesmen, Muhammad and many of his followers migrated to the neighboring city of Medina. This migration is called the Hijra and marked the beginning of Muhammad's reign as both a political as well as a religious leader.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Muslim and I'm not trying to start an argument I'm merely correcting some points and adding context to some quotes which were posted earlier

ATS does NOT tolerate religious hatred.

It is possible to discuss this topic in a civilised manner befitting people of intelligence in a modern society without resorting to pointless stereotypes or hate speech.

Please do so.

What a joker... You're basically saying that a minority should change themselves to better suit an intolerant society. 'Adapt or else'? Or 'I don't see the point in everyone looking past cultural differences, only minorities should'? Trying to adopt a 'I'm saying this because I care about you' appearance doesn't stand up here.

Any Westerner that doesn't tolerate Muslims because of a the stereotype propagated by fundamentalist minority is a moron, and vice versa. Not everyone is a fundamentalist. I.e. not all Westerners drink and look at porn excessively, neither do all Muslims segregate the sexes and abide Sharia law. In fact, many Muslims drink and look at porn - so I fail to see your point.

I've got a better idea. Everyone deflates their ego, gets over their delusional cultural preconceptions and realise that the environments and paradigms they grew up around are no more valid than those of others. In fact, they're not valid at all - one only assumes they are because they've been told so a thousand times. Wow, how clever.

All 'cultures' are farcical - 'ya, my values are x because that's what people in the society I grew up in believe', 'I dress this way because thats how my social group dresses'. Conformity without premeditated choice is weak, lazy and pathetic, why succumb to peer pressure? Especially when nationality itself is an illusion, defined by lines drawn on a picture of the world. Question your own values, question those of others and be yourself, not who you're told to be. Everyone has the 'right' to live anywhere they want and believe whatever they want - funny how Western society can often be much more intolerant than the ones it labels 'intolerant'.

Peace out.

To loose one's individuality, personal beliefs makes you a
commodity of the state, . . .
this is exactly what the political agenda has done to North Korea.
The same psychological manipulation was used by the europeans, yes,
the europeans . . . to force Native americans into catholic schools.
If they could get away with it, some posters here (who are so clueless of ethical values, you know who I mean) that they would even demand Natives to assimilate beliefs or leave.
Just remember, . . .
when we give up our individuality then we are
no different than North Korea.
BTW I'm Muslim and if anyone doesn't like that, well too f'n bad for
them, . . . welcome to the real world.
Oh and I don't plan on leaving any time soon being part Metis/Mohawk,
maybe it's you that should consider leaving ?

I hear in the States you are free to be Muslims as long as you do not look or act all Muslimy. Reading this thread so far would confirm that. If you plan on taking a flight you are going to have to dress like an American. I am not sure if that is a Paris Hilton American or a Mormon schoolgirl American. Maybe it is a nun's habit? Never pray to your god out loud. You can be atheist or Satanist out loud but you gotta keep that Muslim praying to yourself. It scares people on airplanes when you pray. That is what I have learned so far anyway. America is truly the land of the free sort of.
