OK so I was just 5 min ago on a thread about Muslim immigration to Sweden, Nothing unusual there as I have seen many similar threads here on ATS. There was nothing racist or untoward or anything I can think of that violates the T&Cs yet it has been deleted, not 404'd where you can still see it on the topic firehose but actually deleted like it was never here!!!!!!!

I have seen similar things like this, another example is the thread that claimed to show someguy from 2023 who was able to communicate on some websites forum??
I hadnt finished reading everything the "time traveller" had written before I had to go so posted and thought Ill come back to it later but wouldnt you know it the fricken thing was deleted!!!!!
I doubt it was for linking to another site but thats the only thing I can think of (I confess I havent read every single line of the T&Cs)

I appreciate threads do need to be stopped from time to time but whats wrong with leaving them and the posts already there alone? (duplicate threads of course being the exception)

Would it be possible perhaps when a thread does get deleted or 404'd (what does that mean anyway?) maybe saying why it was erased? like you guys do with deleted posts.
It wouldnt be hard and considering the paranoid tin foil hat wearing types that are the majority of your audience (myself included) It would also help reassure some of us that its not censorship at work and that a violation of the T&Cs has been commited which made the removal necessary.

MODS= This is in the general conspiracy section because at this stage Im not convinced there isnt some ATS conspiracy going on, feel free to move this to rants if it has no merit or skunk works if my telling the truth scares you

P.s To all MODS you do a wonderful job and I would like to thank you for the time and effort you guys put in to give us all a great forum to be in and also for making us somewhat safe from anymore OBL threads, I noticed you guys have been getting rid of them quicker the last few days.
Definately not having a go at you all just curious why things work the way they do
Cheers

HAHA!!!!!!

BUSTED!!!!

They just moved my thread from general conspiracies to Board something or other.

People this just confirms it!!!!!

ATS is run by the NWO as a front for the Nazi collaborating grey aliens secret intelligence and DNA gathering operations!!!!!

But seriously, can anyone shed some light on why threads get deleted when they havent violated the T&Cs? does anyone know what happened to the swedish immigration thread?

P.s to the MOD, sorry didnt notice this forum before. Probably a better home for the thread as oposed to GC. Cheers

Staff don't delete threads "helter skelter"...

When there are obvious T&C violations (porn/illegal activities/solicitation/etc.) then the thread is immediately deleted. If the T&C violations aren't "obvious" but might be a concern then the thread is discussed in the moderator's forum and a decision is made after some thorough consideration.

There are a few exceptions - like in the Breaking Alternative News forum - where staff would typically delete a duplicate thread instead of closing and redirecting it. This is simply to get people to search before they post a "breaking news" article.

We simply cannot publicly announce every action we take. One reason is because it takes up a lot of time to keep the forum nice and tidy...And if we were to make a public announcement and then handle the discussion following the announcement every time we move a thread... then staff members would probably die from being overworked...

If you are REALLY curious as to why a thread was deleted you could always approach one of the staff members directly and ask why a thread was deleted... The typical answer will be "because of T&C" violations - and that's simply because threads are typically deleted because of...T&C violations.

PS – it always helps if you have the exact title of the thread you are looking for or a link...

There are a million and one ways to kill a cat.
There are a million and three reasons to kill a thread.
Call it a backdoor if you want.
And then in a worst case scenario, ATS still owns the Cyberpaper and cyber pen so...

I was writing up a lengthy response to a UFO related post yesterday that seemed as usual as the rest and it 404'd on me.. it was odd.. I searched and couldn't find it.. it was annoying mainly because I worked up a rather big response on the topic.

Nevertheless.. I have seen an increase in the number of threads that just poof into the ether for reasons I don't understand but usually don't bother questioning.

Having said that.. I doubt it's conspiracy or NWO related
probably just a hair trigger on the nuke button to keep this very busy forum running properly

I don't mind seeing a thread 404d if it violates the terms and conditions of the site, but maybe a short-lived wall about why it was killed could be left up for 5-10 minutes. That way people know, and no new conspiracies begin.

I had a thread of mine 404'd earlier by 2 mods and got 2000 points deducted and then they messaged me back apologizing saying it was an accident and that they would repost my thread. I'm still waiting for it to be put back up because I'm really looking for some helpful advice on extreme neck and shoulder pain, agh!
So sometimes it could just be an accident, other times, it's usually because of personal info being put into the post...or obvious trolling (such as the "im a time traveller" threads)

Hey Dude,

Thanks for the reply

Once again I appreciate all the work you guys put in and dont expect a lengthy essay on why it was deleted but perhaps something like you have for posts with a small explanation of the area of the T&Cs it violated could e implemented?

I have had several posts removed and replied to the MOD on several occasions and only once did I get a response!!

I also tried to get in touch with the MOD who runs the debate forum but havent heard back after several attempts, does that forum still run?

LMAO

It was your thread that prompted me to write this

I had just found out another thread I had just posted on was gone then I clicked on yours, got the 404 message and thought "Feck this for a joke, whats going on?"

I look forward to reading it when its back up

Lol well turns out its not getting put back up because ATS frowns on people asking for medical advice/home remedies etc...I saw a few replies to the thread in my inbox but never got the chance to read them. It's alright though I suppose. I would have just gone to see a doctor but it's sunday here and most dr,'s offices aren't open til monday and Im just in a world of pain right now.

The thing that bothers me way more than 404'd threads though, is that some threads still up from a long time ago that have lots of reliable sources (I was looking for patriot act info in one search), and many of the sources posted by members are no longer available online. So the threads weren't deleted, but the sources were

I can't think of any specific titles, but I've noticed lately that some threads disappear from the firehose page, but they're still in the forums, or if it's new enough, it'll be in the current topics, or recent posts, but gone from firehoses.

It's frustrating to read something, and plan to go back to it, and can't find it if I don't remember the exact title or the forum label.

I have seen threads go for reasons i dont understand. Some of which were intresting. It really would be nice if something could be posted explaining why. Even if it is a computer generated response for different areas of abuse....

ATS will never make a public statement about why threads get deleted or 404'd as a general rule. It has been asked for many times, by me alone, plus others, but no bananas. Only occasionally, when really pestered will they explain the odd one.

Arrogance? Power tripping? Who knows, but they get a charge out of it even tho it takes up far more time and resources in lengthy discussion on threads created just to ask "Why?" than it would if every time they put up a simple explanatory paragraph.
