Amorphophallus titanum flower biggest in the world

I thought id start a thread on something a bit different away from the doom and gloom this plant is amazing i tTitan Arum is also called the Corpse flower,The scientific name Amorphophallus titanum, means huge deformed penis,It also grows from a large corm that can weigh over 200 pounds What is truly remarkable about this plant is that it is one of the largest, rarest and possibly smelliest flower you could ever encounter, When fully opened, the gigantic flower looks like an upturned bell with frilly edges and a thick clapper in the middle. Opinion about the stench emitted by the plant is generally negative. It can remind you of rotten eggs, fish, meat, and even cheese. This is caused by sulfur compounds.And this plant onley blooms every six years..Id love to be a botanist and trying growing this plant its amaseing!

Nice post Sugar, i would love to see this flower, to smell it, foul odour regardless.
I once saw a Dragon Tree (Dracaena drago) that flowers only once every 10-15 years, unfortunately i missed the flowering.
Nature at times leaves me delightfully, rightfully, speechless.

I find nature to be amaseing..I would love to see this flower also even if it does stink ..The Dracaena drago is also another mystery to bad you missed the flowering that would have been something to see!

Did I read somewhere it takes 5 years to grow? I might have misread that. Though if that is true... thats a LONG time in nature to grow without being infected/killed :O

Is there an advantage to blooming? Can it reproduce at that point or can it do everything it needs to before then?

Seems they need to attract pollinators to grow and high heat..And it looks like they have a built in time clock they tells them to grow then bloom its called thermogenesis i dont think there is an advantage to blooming except to grow and gain strength seems like they need alot of energy to grow

I wonder if it would bloom more often if you popped some viagra into the soil... Look at me, always thinking! That is a crazy flower! I'd love to have one in my garden...give all my neighbours "flower envy"

I got a giggle from your post i wonder what miracle grow would do that thing would probley be twice the size! You would either give your neighbors "flower envy"or it would cause them to leave just from the smell

lol i know this is soooo not me but im glad you got a laugh from this yes the video has been around for awhile but i thought it was a neat flower worth showwing again
