I look at humanity and for the most part i see death, destruction, poverty and hunger. Yea things may be cool where you are....i live in a lovely part of the UK where im not looking over my shoulder to see where the next bullet is coming from.

There are billions of people who dont have it as good us us. And heres the worst bit....theres NO need for anyone to starve. You, i, everyone, allows this to happen because WE have everything we need. We are all greedy self opinionated arrogant wretches.

You see a few happy families and assume its like that everywhere. People put on a front when in public, most people dont air their grievances in open public. How many people are truly happy with what they have??

We are what we are, i think you need to take a good look at humanity through history. We arent peace loving, we arent welcoming...i wouldnt be surprised if we were banished to a dark corner of the universe because of our traits

If they are here then they are evil for not saving us from our elite slave masters and helping us with safe energy's to make electricity and power homes, autos and helping us get into space to help keep earth healthy and other life saving technology's

If they are not here then its just a matter of time before they are and I hope they believe in ways like something we see in star trek and they help us with technology and stuff. It would really suck for them to show up and do to us what we did to the Na'vi in Avatar lol

Don't get me wrong I see this too, I just think were always to quick to see the bad in the world.

What about the good hard working individual who spends their free time helping the homeless?

What about the 70 year old pensioner who gives what little they have to charity?

What about the hero who runs into burning buiding to save a life?

What about missionaries trying to heal the sick in 3rd world countries?

There are thousands of examples of good in Humans, I think at the core most of us strive to be good natured. Yes we can be hateful, spiteful beings at times but I put the majority of blame on the people who control us.

I think they visit all the time.. it's who they visit .. I believe they come here for specific reasons we arnt aware of .. could be to see how far we are in space travel they know we have planes trains and rockets and a space station..

It could be they know more about whe our dooms day ,then we do and may have an interest as how to save us .. or it could be that they are just as broke as we are JK

If you believe the AAH (Ancient Aliens Hypothesis) then perhaps they are still visiting us to check up on their creation to see how we are progressing.

I'm pretty sure the only reason they wouldn't come here now is playstation network is down. Do you think an intelligent species would travel all that way just to pay for Xbox live?
Ok really tho. I think if they did come the probe theroy makes the most sense. They would send some sort of technological device that could get the same info as an acually ebe could. It would be cool if they did come down to say "what's up earth dude's. Go leafs go". I would have to think we have something they would appreciate be it music, art, mma whatever.

I saw at least one reference to their "Prime Directive".

One reason aliens may not reveal themselves is that they could be from our future and don't want to mess-up the timeline.

Another reason is that they prefer us to make our own mistakes and learn from them evolving our technology at our own pace. To guide us would be to take away the joy of guiding ourselves.

Someone made the mistake in thinking that I think that aliens are peaceful beings. They aren't but that doesn't mean they are going to torture us or destroy us and take over. They have the technology to enslave us all, destroy us all, do whatever they want. But they haven't. The evil is probably out of boredom.

I also think since there are different ET's visiting us, you can't say all of them are 'good' or 'evil'. Each group, possibly even each individual alien, has their own agenda.

The apparent age of the universe seems to indicate that some intelligent extraterrestrial races could have been around for billions of years. This is far more than long enough to have expanded into the entire galaxy, even at speeds below that of light. Humanity has expanded from small enclaves in Africa to cover every inhabitable corner of this planet, within a few million years. Should we assume that humans are unique in all the universe, in their tendency to reach out in this way? I don't see why or how this would be so. This planet may have the status of a cultural reserve within a galaxy teeming with highly advanced intelligent life. When we become ready for open contact, I expect it will happen. Ross

Aliens actually are interested in our arts and philosophy. They have whole sections, even stores in Andromeda about earthling stuff. They even do remakes of are classic stories like Romeo and Juliet. Too bad I can't bring pictures back...

Most of them don't really visit, they just access the internet by our satellites.

The theory goes we could aproach 99.99999.... % of the speed but as we do mass increases until the last (n)th percent takes an infinite amount of energy to achieve. .Which we don't have...so the 100% and 101% light speed condition is "right out".

Plenty of folks will pull beliefs out of thin air(Unicorn wishes really) That faster than light speed is is possible for matter in our universe and Einstien was just a "patent clerk doofus": but special relativity checks out experimentally from what experiments we can devise..(I.E "Time dilation" :proven. Light bending around massive objects; predicted by the theory and proven back in 1918 I think).

I'd say curiousity, let's face it if we discovered a planet in the future with intelligent life on it and we had the capability to check it out, we would. Even if the planet only contained flora and fauna we'd still check it out - I doubt humans aren't the only curious entities in the entire galaxy.

I take your point on the evils of planet earth but it's not all bad - love, charity and good will does exist and as far as nature is concerned planet earth is a beautiful place. When we forget about whom we share this planet with all is lost.

Why would E.T. NOT be visiting?
This thought experiment should be easy:
#1) They flat out don't exist( imho highly unlikely)
#2) We don't exist( hmmmm?)
#3) They've not discovered us yet because we live in a relatively obscure jerkwater part of the galaxy.
#4) They exist but are not advanced enough to discover us.
#5) They exist and have technology but no desire or need to look ;Perhaps got their own problems to worry about.
#6) The TSA won't let them fly without a proper probing?
#7) They are all close minded over 30 and grumpy conservatives who won't let their young fly to the stars and disupt the current paradigm.
#8)The alien captain won't take off until that really nice Swingline stapler (the #101)is returned to the ships supply locker.
#9) They simply can't find the captains real birth certificate to clear Andoran border customs.
