Taliban claims deadly Osama revenge blast

A double suicide bombing in Pakistan has killed at least 70 people and injured more than 100, as Pakistan's Taliban claimed their first major strike in revenge for Osama bin Laden's death.

And so it begins. Though it appears that the reach of the extreme team is confined to their country and that of their neighbors. Poor ol' Pakistan....

Oh, good grief! Osama has most likely been dead for years! They're just looking for excuses. And of course the innocent have to pay the price.

So they threaten the US and UK and we're told by our governments to be very afraid and then....they bomb Pakistan?

Well perhaps Pakistan was in charge of the safe haven of the guy as per agreed with the "Taliban". Perhaps that's why bin Laden was where he was for so long undetected and also why Pakistan declared no knowledge of his location. Failing in the task of protection they're being punished.

Perhaps also this is just a faceless CIA op in retaliation to the supply of misleading intelligence.

Well Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, really only operate in Pakistan and in Afghanistan but they are not the same as the Afghan Taliban. I would imagine that their justification for an attack against a Pakistani target by claiming that they Pakistani government should have done more to protect Bin Laden during the attack. In doing this they are claiming an attack in his name and thus speaking to the many Pakistani’s who are angered by the manor of his death and the suspicion of Pakistani involvement and as a result are increasing their popularity. Some interesting politics at play here, the big Al-Qa’ida revenge attack however is still due.
