Who is with me??

No one with a brain in their head, lol, omg, rofl, pos.

Think about this a little further between XBox games and face book postings. Try to come up with a detailed plan and not an "imaginative concept." Imaginative concepts are most often produced by the least competent. They are the easiest things to generate but the Devil is in the details. We geezers can tell you about that and a few other things you don't know yet. You don't even know what you don't know. Begin by reading about "unintended consequences" and "good intentions" [this last is what paves the road to Hell].

Here is your first problem: When we all retire at 30, who will be working 24/7 to pay for our benefits?

What has my generation accomplished thus far? I don't know, it seems to me my generation created the tool which ultimately overthrew oppressive regimes in Africa and the Middle East (something your generation and generations before had been trying to do for YEARS). And oh yeah, my generation (as defined by the OP) has only been in the game for a MAX of one decade. So, I'd say we are off to a BLAZING start. Especially considering that we are now just entering the work force

1) The tool, that triggered the revolutions in the Middle East were the computer, internet, twitter and wikileaks - all of which have nothing to do with any kids leaving school. They are all products of people over thirty.

2) The idea you think they were proves your total lack of suitability for power.

3) The revolutions in the Middle East are run by Islamists, mostly old men Imams in mosques, not kids. The kids are the ones running around firing guns wildly in the air like idiots and shouting Allah Akhbar.

4) Your generation are the idiots that get 'inspired' by Obama The Tele Prompter Presidents speeches - you are the banal brainwashed Facebook Gneration who think your self improtant self aggrandizing equates to having done and achieved anything in life.

Sorry to awaken you, but it doesnt.

5) The fact you are just entering the workforce means you are about to wake up and realise you are just another drone like the rest of us.

You aint special.

You are just another cog in the machine like we all are / were.

Grow up and deal with it kid.

No, the Egyptian revolution isn't run by Islamists. That is a simple fact. "Allah Akbar" simply means the same gesture when Winston Churchil flashed a V for vitory sign.

Of course the Theocrats (including the godless theocracy we call consumerism and TV mania) will try to hijack it.
Moreover, the revolution in Egypt, the largest Arab centre was mostly nonviolent. And, started by a young woman without a veil on a youtube video.
Get real. This is something really happening. Now.
Some arguments were remind me as if in 1788 sombody said "we'll never get rid of churches and democracy is only a dream. Well, it was a partial success.

According to the Professional Engineers I deal with, the young people coming out of University can't even do their own research, need hand holding, and have atrocious report writing skills.

You can even see it like places such as this and elsewhere on the Net, the lack of comprehension and writing skills.

The old schoolers like Dick Cheney etc. they will pass off the scene soon enough.

The problems we face are issues of the human heart, not of age.

sorry also man, your right, anger at TPTB is the fuel which we'll need though to actually start making a difference, young and old working together, like i said, i wish to see someone create a thread with peoples ideas and such on such changes and whatnot, it would be very interesting because i for one, have many ideas, even if unrealistic, makes sense ya have to admit, just based on right or wrong, but religion is a tuffy to overcome...

Why do you blame that on Socialists?
Socialists for one thing are the enemy of the neocapitalistic order and consumerism which is what screwed the values of Western society in the first place.
I witnessed that as early as 1974, kids were raised with a twisted outlook of total egotism and no social order. Left and right, liberal and conservative. As long as you were not an outsider who refused to believe in TV, the fake "growth" of the Reagan times and the newly invented diseases like ADHD, dyslexia etc.
True, autism was growing exponentionally due to the fact that parents accepted the mind controlled poisons of profit-hungry multinationals.

I am a Spiritual Revolutionary and I am respected by the young.

Yes, indeed it is about your intellect, as you have said as much.... don't you remember?

Your knowledge of a particular field, being greater than that of another individual, or group as a whole.

I am sure you can explain the questions I asked, but you might want to try the last one again... you were a bit off... 'explosion' and 'increase'?

So, a massive bomb goes off increasing knowledge? Really, maybe read the internet's answer a bit slower next time.

In the opening definitions, it is not an explosion that creates an increase... it is an 'increase' of new knowledge that eclipses the singularity event plane, which leads to an 'explosion' of new concepts, principals, and general knowledge at a scale unimaginable by humans - as a whole, and individual, an age demographic, race, or any other identifying characteristic.

The things you 'know' from reading the internet... let me ask you a question and please, answer it honestly...

If you and I were in a parking lot, or any other place where you may not have access to the internet, could you explain what you have learned from reading answers on the internet - in detail and correctly?
edit on 13-5-2011 by esteay812 because: Tyops

Its about my generations intellect not mine specifically. I take alot of pride in what I know, and when someone tells me something I do my own research and go from there.

You ask me to 'read the internets answer a bit slower next time.' I didnt ask the internet for an answer, everything I know about technological singularity was from an article I found and read in a recent Time Magazine, and a TED talk, I had the privilege of listening to.

And my honest answer is ABSOLUTELY, in fact today at work I was telling a co-worker some things I read about Iris Scanners and how they will be readily available on the market come 2012, for an approximate $99. With the Iris Scanners they have no worry about it being able to be hacked like it is so often in movies because as people die their Iris' flattens out making it un-readable.

That being said, from your remarks and your not-so-subtle hints of sarcasm I wouldnt be caught on a park bench with you. From what I have witnessed and you have portrayed in my mind you have nothing to offer me in terms of living a better, happier life.

(please dont take this as rude because thats the last thing I want to portray.)

Very cool. I now consider you a friend on ATS. We can work things out. (Not bad for an old cuss?)
It truly is hard to work a job, raise a family, and go to school. If I can do it, you can do it. The goal is worth it. There is nothing wrong with being a cook. I was a dishwasher even after I got my degree, just to keep my office open. It is just not what you want to do. So, the answer is simple. Just do it.

PS. Nothing to forgive. We reached accord. Friends understand. No apology is necessary. I am done with this thread.

Good thing this is a comedy forum ey?

I will at least have the open-mindedness to admit I might be wrong. I know for a fact I couldnt run a country. All of you oldies keep saying "you gosh darn youngins always thinkin yer right" from where im sitting, most of you admit very little fault.

Whats that one saying about a pot and a kettle, one calls one of them black or something? Someone over 40 help me out?

A child's heart is pure because they have never had to make hard choices.

What are you smoking?

Technology, especially social networking, has done far more to isolate and create impersonal relationships than anything I can remember in my 40+ years.

You can't have real change without real relationships. Can you look someone in the eye when things go bad or are you just going to go home and tweet about it?

I laughed hard at this!

Idealisticly beautiful but certainly absurd.

I have been a manager in retail for over 10 years and I have worked with a lot of youth. I realize my stereotype I am about to describe is not everyone and it is a generalization of people who are entry level into the retail industry there are of course stellar and average employees in the retail industry and all others. But as a person who had to raise themselves with no guidance I don't know how people who grew up in suburbia with two full time parents and all the advantages available can be so full of shortcomings on such a regular basis.

The youth I work with are on the average 28 and below with a large percentage between 19 and 24.

The lack of common sense is mind boggling. I have actually had to walk away from situations because the actions of the employees left me speechless and confused.

The lack of drive is the second observation. A simple task of 5 minutes has taken employees hours with little or no results while they see their work as exceeding expectation.

I am sure I had similar ideals when I was young.

I would say raise you limit up to the age of 50. Besides, wouldnt we all be happier knowing we'd get to "retire" at the age of 50 instead of 70? Enjoy your lives people, let us young bloods determine out future!

I am 43.

We were all young and dumb at one time before.

We will all be old at one time as well.

Let's hope we stop being dumb at some time too!

Life has hard choices because without hard choices we would languish and die.

Ever watch nature? The purest form of what is what on our planet.

It is not easy, it is not meant to be. We are supposed to fight for our survival.

If you took away hard choices you would have to take away diversity. You would have to take away option.

I would rather have the hard choices, thanks.

I am 20, and I am in complete agreement. We are in no position to take over #. The vast majority of my generation can conjugate a verb contingent on the subject, can't apply basic logic skills to real world problems, and, frankly, I think we do feel sort of entitled to things, especially living in a first world country. The problem, though, is education. How do we expect the future generations to be able to cope with an ever-faster-changing world when we divert all of our resources away from educating them with basic skills?
