No, the Egyptian revolution isn't run by Islamists. That is a simple fact. "Allah Akbar" simply means the same gesture when Winston Churchil flashed a V for vitory sign.

Of course the Theocrats (including the godless theocracy we call consumerism and TV mania) will try to hijack it.

According to the Professional Engineers I deal with, the young people coming out of University can't even do their own research, need hand holding, and have atrocious report writing skills.

You can even see it like places such as this and elsewhere on the Net, the lack of comprehension and writing skills.

The old schoolers like Dick Cheney etc. they will pass off the scene soon enough.

The problems we face are issues of the human heart, not of age.

k thanx, i forgive you sorry also man, your right, anger at TPTB is the fuel which we'll need though to actually start making a difference, young and old working together, like i said, i wish to see someone create a thread with peoples ideas and such on such changes and whatnot, it would be very interesting because i for one, have many ideas, even if unrealistic, makes sense ya have to admit, just based on right or wrong, but religion is a tuffy to overcome...

Its about my generations intellect not mine specifically. I take alot of pride in what I know, and when someone tells me something I do my own research and go from there.

You ask me to 'read the internets answer a bit slower next time.' I didnt ask the internet for an answer, everything I know about technological singularity was from an article I found and read in a recent Time Magazine, and a TED talk, I had the privilege of listening to.

And my honest answer is ABSOLUTELY, in fact today at work I was telling a co-worker some things I read about Iris Scanners and how they will be readily available on the market come 2012, for an approximate $99. With the Iris Scanners they have no worry about it being able to be hacked like it is so often in movies because as people die their Iris' flattens out making it un-readable.

That being said, from your remarks and your not-so-subtle hints of sarcasm I wouldnt be caught on a park bench with you. From what I have witnessed and you have portrayed in my mind you have nothing to offer me in terms of living a better, happier life.

(please dont take this as rude because thats the last thing I want to portray.)

It truly is hard to work a job, raise a family, and go to school. If I can do it, you can do it. The goal is worth it. There is nothing wrong with being a cook. I was a dishwasher even after I got my degree, just to keep my office open. It is just not what you want to do. So, the answer is simple. Just do it.

PS. Nothing to forgive. We reached accord. Friends understand. No apology is necessary. I am done with this thread.

Technology, especially social networking, has done far more to isolate and create impersonal relationships than anything I can remember in my 40+ years.

You can't have real change without real relationships. Can you look someone in the eye when things go bad or are you just going to go home and tweet about it?

Idealisticly beautiful but certainly absurd.

I have been a manager in retail for over 10 years and I have worked with a lot of youth. I realize my stereotype I am about to describe is not everyone and it is a generalization of people who are entry level into the retail industry there are of course stellar and average employees in the retail industry and all others. But as a person who had to raise themselves with no guidance I don't know how people who grew up in suburbia with two full time parents and all the advantages available can be so full of shortcomings on such a regular basis.

The youth I work with are on the average 28 and below with a large percentage between 19 and 24.

The lack of common sense is mind boggling. I have actually had to walk away from situations because the actions of the employees left me speechless and confused.

The lack of drive is the second observation. A simple task of 5 minutes has taken employees hours with little or no results while they see their work as exceeding expectation.

I am sure I had similar ideals when I was young.

Life has hard choices because without hard choices we would languish and die.

Ever watch nature? The purest form of what is what on our planet.

It is not easy, it is not meant to be. We are supposed to fight for our survival.

If you took away hard choices you would have to take away diversity. You would have to take away option.

I am 20, and I am in complete agreement. We are in no position to take over #. The vast majority of my generation can conjugate a verb contingent on the subject, can't apply basic logic skills to real world problems, and, frankly, I think we do feel sort of entitled to things, especially living in a first world country. The problem, though, is education. How do we expect the future generations to be able to cope with an ever-faster-changing world when we divert all of our resources away from educating them with basic skills?
