I am a 26 year old devout christian who is also a believer in evolution and a post grad degree Entomologist... Am I bragging? Nope.. probably the first time I've ever mentioned this on the message boards.. but it is who I am and it proves a point.

I am definitely not part of the problem.

Perhaps things promoted by Christianity would come in handy more than ever now.. Lets call them morals.... What morals you ask?

How about.. Don't steal stuff.. Be kind to people.. Don't slut around... Think about others instead of yourself for a change.. Don't lie constantly and when you get caught admit it instead of starting the damn chain of lies all over again until they swallow you..bullying people is bad... You shouldn't kill people!... for starters...

Morals.. people bash them on here all the time, but those are just a couple of them...

Instead of calling them "Morals" lets call them qualifications to be a decent freaking human being.

ummm...
I dont recall seeing anyone calling you out for what you do for a living.
Seems perhaps that issue is yours and yours alone.
This topic, nor any topic here that I have perused is about you.
If you feel what you do for a living demeans you in some way, do something else that your proud of.
But dont lash out at others because you feel demeaned by what you've chosen to do.
Heck, perhaps you could become party girl's Prez

What happens after this has happened for several generations? Some one somewhere had to amass the compendium of current knowledge. When the path of least resistance is employed to gain all the quick answers and the learning process is demolished, changing personalities and decision making abilities for generations will cripple the future society as a whole.

Very well put.

The problem with the technological "singularity" is that the concept
does not take into account the 6 billion people that just want to breed,
eat, and watch TV.

What would the lowest common denominator do in that high tech world ?
Similar to the the "Zeitgeist" concept it just doesn't take the average
human into account.

I'll tell you what, "the young" can have California as my little gift to you. Run the state as you please. More than likely, you will just keep running it on the same path to oblivion that it is currently on. Keep us posted on your success. BTW you will all need to move out of your "old" parents basements, stop changing your majors just to stay in school, graduate and make something of yourselves.

Sorry, don't expect to walk into a 6 figure income right out of school either just because you think you deserve it. Yes, you will have to pay your dues too.

Awesome!! Then you agree, since the airplane wing has been around for quite some time, you can explain exactly how it works? It should be very simple for you to do... I imagine, if you don't know, you will just look it up using the internet.

How about the internal combustion engine?

Can you tell me why tires have belts in them? How about water treatment facilities, can you explain to me why people age? How about Solar Energy Cells... maybe you can explain how batteries work... since all of these things have been around for enough time to be understood... using your logic.

Like I said earlier, you will just use the internet to find the answers you do not know - which what what happens to those who are the generations growing up in the 'information age'

The problem is that you or your peers do not have to learn anything and keep it in memory. Go to the little screen and ask a question, cha-ching, there's your answer.

The only hope for a future that endures this type of abuse is technology and computers themselves. Hopefully, before disaster is brought by the lack of real knowledge, a technological singularity will occur and make it OK for those who don't have the knowledge to keep the world operating at a productive, efficient, and overall desirable level.

The theory of a technological singularity has been around for sometime now.... can you please explain that to me, without searching it on the internet?

I can explain in adequate detail everything you asked about thus far, the specific being technological singularity, is referred to by several different people about several different things seeing as it is still considered a hypothetical situation. It often includes an explosion and increase of technology up until the point of singularity. Which as I understand is humans and technology coexisting. i.e. Artificial Intelligence.

This isnt about my intellect as you seem to think.

The beauty of the internet is the accessibility of information. I can honestly tell you 75% of the things I know, especially in regards to science and technology came from the internet reading articles and watching lectures. Theres alot of intellectuals out there. Dont count us all out.

Yes, you could be right, but it is impossible to predict what will happen after the event.

It is quite possible it will assess any threat level and neutralize them all, maybe even by building machines to dispatch of the 'undesirables'.

I assume that you have been into it with your parents and didn't like being told that despite being 29 yrs old, you will still follow their rules while you live under their roof.

I am glad you pointed to nuclear annihilation, I kno mansy hippies and literary products of that age and that was certainly a sure factor whether they should smoke pot and f**their parents' values and ruin away. I mean the Bomb. They thought it was Armageddon. (Sorry for spelling I am gwetting too sleepy.)

Now it looks like that again. Slower, but not much slower
We shoulkd make a Theme Park on Environmental disasters.
Spend a day on Floating Trash Island - we can buy parts of it timeshare!
Enjoy the temp agencies. "Hot air for a cool breeze..." (quoting from Pink Floyd lyrics "Wish you were here c) 1975)...

Well guys, a revolution is coming to Europe and America. There is no way out.

lt seems generation bashing is something that never changes.

"The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they alone knew everything and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for girls, they are forward, immodest and unwomanly in speech, behaviour and dress." - Sokrates

I agree!!!!

I am pushing 70 and my generation has ruined this Nation. I would love to see no one over 55 be permitted to vote again. My generation is a scared group of bigoted buffoons. Without us, there would be no radical conservatism or Tea Party (such as it is). We are owed nothing. PLEASE let my generation die off fast.

I salute you for wanting to get an education. However, I , believe earlier you said you were 25 and married with a child. Just for the sake of argument, I will assume your child is 10. (That is not a logical assumption and I do not believe you would have a child when you were 15.) But if we do assume your child is 10, they will not be out of high school for at least 6 years. I think you are probably a good parent and you will not let your child do without while they are in school so you will continue working. If that is when you wish to continue your education you will be 31 years old. 31 yoa is past the useful age according to your posts and the OP's. At 31, your child's generation will be ready to throw you under the bus. That makes you a a candidate for the rubbish bin at the age of 31.

As someone who is working a job they hate, to provide for those they love at the sacrifice of their own future, don't you realize you are the same type of hero that you are bashing simply because we are older? Your problem isn't lack of intelligence or education, it is anger. It is blinding you to the fact that the only thing holding you back is the availability of excuses. I did not start my advanced education until I was 37 with 2 kids and a wife prone to strokes. It took 1.5 years longer to get my degree because of family illness. I had to continually drop out to work second and third jobs. But I never lost site of the goal. I urge you to begin your education now. You do not need to go full time. 1 simple course 1-2 days per week per semester will give you the incentive to continue. I wish you well and I truly mean that.

Who is with me! Youthquake!

Who is with me??

Not I!!!

Your so-called Youthquake is just a hippie-reminiscent movement like "Generation We," which is "endorsed" by Harry Reid (Democrat), Van Jones (communist revolutionary) and Arianna Huffington (co-CEO of #1 liberal MSM outlet). Where did I hear about this conspiracy???

Your own Glenn Beck, a Mormon.

Peace,

Yes, indeed it is about your intellect, as you have said as much.... don't you remember?

Your knowledge of a particular field, being greater than that of another individual, or group as a whole.

I am sure you can explain the questions I asked, but you might want to try the last one again... you were a bit off... 'explosion' and 'increase'?

So, a massive bomb goes off increasing knowledge? Really, maybe read the internet's answer a bit slower next time.

In the opening definitions, it is not an explosion that creates an increase... it is an 'increase' of new knowledge that eclipses the singularity event plane, which leads to an 'explosion' of new concepts, principals, and general knowledge at a scale unimaginable by humans - as a whole, and individual, an age demographic, race, or any other identifying characteristic.

The things you 'know' from reading the internet... let me ask you a question and please, answer it honestly...

If you and I were in a parking lot, or any other place where you may not have access to the internet, could you explain what you have learned from reading answers on the internet - in detail and correctly?

this generation has to (not going to say stop wars, every generation wants this):

- abandon commercialism and profiteering!

- reform food industry

- educate the media (promote human values, not the degrading bs)

- teach independent thinking

-etc

Tea Parties are cool and all but your generation is locking people up for natural medicines that PROMOTE life. Hating on people for who they choose to love, and trying your best to control our bodies. Your generation controls big money and big business which is obviously wrecking America.

Dont get me wrong, I love my Mother and Father for their up-bringings and morals they installed in me. But seriously, its time to end these judgmental, controlling attitudes being held by our 'elders!'

This is the "instant gratification" Millennium Generation.

When I worked as a SVP at a major bank, HR had all of us take a course in managing this generation.

As I've said, I also have a 26 year old daughter who grew up as this gen.

Anyway, the bullet points astounded me. They explained that within 6 months on any job, this generation EXPECTS to be promoted into management, no matter what. If not, they will complain until they are either fired, or they resign.

It was a real jaw dropping experience to say the least...
