They're not stars, but planets.

Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter are all visible together in the early hours.

www.space.com...

You have this one right that what he caught on his video Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter !

Most UFO /Lights in sky sightings are easily explainable if you take the time out to examine it

I still find it weird that they were 3 planets and I didn't even know. Very surreal.

Um, where are you in the world? Im by the pacific and its not the 13th yet! lol.

So that would be "Strange lights in the sky sighted on 12-5-11..."

Or am I missing something?

Cool lights nonetheless, looks like Orb type ufo phenomena.

Most humans are not trained observers. So people usually are unaware of many things in the sky.

In Australia it is currently the morning of the 13th.
Sun came up just a little while ago.

But this alignment should be visible anywhere on earth, in the east just before dawn.
But the orientation of the planets will be slightly different.
From the northern hemisphere, Mars will be the the left, Venus and Jupiter on top with Mercury below. Liek the video just tilted to the right a lot.

Yup, planet alignment. The article above states its clearly visible in Australia, Thanks for the interesting video OP

Wow! It only happens every 50 to 100 years. How strange was it that I filmed it without knowing what was going on

Thank god it was in focus!

Otherwise the cranks would be in here telling you they were angel orbs protecting us from alien demons!

Would have been nice to get it even clearer

Those planets will be out every morning before sunrise forming different formations, the grand finale will be on the 30th. You should download the free astronomy program stellarium www.stellarium.org... type in your time and location and check all the formations for the month of May before sunrise. This video might help from a visual standpoint

It's weird I didn't hear about this. Otherwise I would have got to a better spot to film it. Would have been nice to take some proper long exposure photographs.

I DO spend far too much time on the computer...

thewatchers.adorraeli.com... whom incidentally have taken ATS link off... but check out all other links of interest, they are...well, interesting

Mars should be between Jupiter and Venus, with a scope, Neptune, and Uranus should also be nearby to the right, only Saturn (behind earth) and Pluto, (maybe too far off to the right) are not in the field of view right now.

Fun interactive solar map at; solar system scope you can play around with.

Very nice. You got Mars in there, too. Your picture would have been taken around 7:00-7:30am local time in Auckland on the 12th, I'd guess:

Yeah, around 7 am. Actually, i took it right from the bottom of the south island, near Invercargill.
The weather's been pretty average lately so i took advantage of the situation and got a few pics.
After all, its a one in a hundred year event. =)
