I'm absolutely facinated by this subject. Your theory is really good. Going to the reality where death did not occur, nice.
I fell into the road once, when I was about eight or nine, a car's wheel went near to my head. Have always thought I was so lucky.

Anyway great theory, well done.

a little more than 4 years ago, on january 4th, i was riding shotgun in a car driven by my girlfriend at the time, with 2 of her friends in the back. we were headed to a casino just after leaving a friends house where we had a few drinks each. well the road to the casino is a small, 2 lane, winding road that travels up and down through some mountains and i would consider rather treacherous, especially at night and inebriated. long story short, while we peaked the final hill before the casino i remember announcing to everyone that the casinos only a mile away...

here is where my memory goes black.

i can't explain the weird feeling i got as i was coming to but it was one of the most peacefully still moments ive experienced. time seemed to be completely still. i was in the car alone just looking out the window. after a bit of looking around dumbfounded the world re-aligned and i realized i was upside down, another 30 seconds and my hearing returned and a little bit after i felt everything just kind of "whoosh" in and i got my senses back. i was in the car alone and confused. after realizing what happened i was wondering where the others were and why no one was around outside.

after that i remember thinking that i had to get out of the car because i thought another car would come and hit me for some reason. i turned to try and crawl out but felt my right arm was stuck. it took me a few minutes to realize it but when we had rolled my arm had hit and broken the window and then my arm had landed under the roof of the car when we had flipped and was now stuck under the car. so i started yelling and some other drivers lifted the car and i crawled out and just laid in the street looking up with a crowd looking down on me and then blacking out again.

my girlfriend said that when we crashed she thought that she had killed me and couldnt handle seeing me dead, she went off the to the side of the road to throw up

she had lost control of the car and we (apparently) skidded the rear of the car off the road which caused the car to swerve towards the oncoming lane. then somehow we hit a road sign and the car flipped over onto the roof and began the slide. we had only been going about 45 mph but it was enough for us to slide a little more than 300 feet down the other side of the hill.

i have no idea how i didnt lose my arm or die or even break a bone. my arm was pretty gnashed up but i left the hospital the same night.

BUUUUUT, if you've read all of that, the point is

for the last 4 years since the, i've gotten these weird flashes that seem alot like memories to me but they are of things i know could not have happened in this life, mostly because its always flashes of ways of dying. i feel like i can specifically remember certain deaths from a first person point of view. i have these weird trace memories of car accidents, drowning, being shot, falling and so forth.

so i got to thinking the same thing that the OP did. what if i've died, and we all die, all the time, but to the individual the transition is imperceptible and they continue living in an alternate reality,

i also came to the problem of old age death and i still am not sure what i think of it. maybe its cyclical and we have a set time to restart with a fresh body.

the universe is of fractal nature and it makes sense that there could just be layer upon layer of infinite iterations of reality.

im sorry if this post doesnt make sense its just the ramblings of a prop 215 patient

I have had a few such occurrences, a more current one my girlfriend and I experienced together. I live in western new york and was driving down a busy road that I knew was going to be having construction done to an overpass about a mile or so up the road. Being the person I am, I figured that instead of wait in the long line to pass through the single lane under the overpass, I would drive through the residential area.
As I made this choice, things started to get weird. I was in the middle of the three lanes, so to get to the residential area I would have to merge right, into a lane full of bumper to bumper cars. So after driving with the turn signal on for about a quarter mile, I found my chance to move, the lane was starting to move and an older blue car was slow on the accelerator so I made my move. I looked out the passenger window and saw an older gentleman with white hair and an "old saint nick" beard. What was weirder to me beyond locking eyes with this man for what felt like an hour, he winked at me before I turned down the side road. We traveled for about 10 minutes(assuming that we listened to 3, 3 minute songs on the radio) down the one of the nicest neighborhoods I've seen in my area (The area we drove through wasn't the same when I took the route 2 weeks later). All the lawns were well maintained and there were people going about their business. I looked at a nice red-brick house and thought to myself "wow, Karen would really think this house is nice" and as I finish this thought she says to me "Did you see that red-brick house? It was beautiful!".
After making several turns I realized that I did not end up where I expected to be, and in that instant we found ourselves speeding up the first road I mentioned, about a quarter mile before the road we turned down to take the side route. It didn't feel to me like we were moving, but I was catching back up to myself at that point when I first decided to take the residential route. At first we were silent, then when we started talking about it, more and more things didn't make sense. Also, the second time around, there were no blue cars at all in the right lane. At top speed and prime conditions the trip we made should have taken about 25-35 minutes, with construction possibly 35-40. The time we arrived at the destination it was only 35 minutes after we left our room.
Still unsure about what happened to us that day...

OK, i resisted saying this earlier, but here it is.

My neighborhood taco bell has always been very hot and bright in the drive thru. I went there yesterday and there are huge trees (old, not saplings or farm bought) shading the drive thru, and not a hint of evidence that it has recently been landscaped. Changed literally overnight.

Now I also experience the same thing with gas wells going up, but yanno-thats just reality.

I'm in my 50's and unfortunately I've never had an interesting event like those being posted here. But my boss just got back from vacation and had a bizarre story that might be of use in this thread. He and his wife were on vacation with their grown kids and some friends. One of the friends had quite a bit to drink that day and decided to go freshen up before they went to dinner. When he came back downstairs they asked if he was ready to go and he looked at them like they were from Mars. He whispered something to his wife and she apologized and said they couldn't go, they then went back to their room while the others went to dinner. My boss later found out that what he had whispered was "I can't go to dinner with these people, I've never even met them!" She attributed it to him having had too much to drink. So my boss gets a call from the wife during dinner and she is freaking out, says her husband tried to jump off the balcony (they were on the 5th floor). So my boss, his wife and their kids head over there, and by the time they get there the guy is running down the street. He's in very bad shape, but my boss said his son-in-law (a college track champion) could barely catch him. He brought the guy back and they took him upstairs and tried to calm him down. My boss started asking him questions and finds out that the guy thinks it's 1984, that he works for a bread company as a driver (he did in '84) and that he'll be fired if he doesn't get to work right away. That's why he tried running away, he was trying to get to work (it would have been quite a run since they were in Mexico!) Anyway, everything my boss asked him was replied to from a 1984 perspective. He knew his wife then, but not the others, and his wife was the only person he recognized. They called a doctor who gave him a sedative and he fell asleep. The next morning he woke up as his usual self and was finally able to tell everyone what they did not know, when he had gone upstairs he went to take a shower and slipped and hit his head. That was the last thing he remembered until waking up the next morning. So after he hit his head he could remember nothing after 1984 but when he woke up the next morning he could remember nothing after hitting his head. So strange!

This is my story, and the first time i have written this anywhere.

I was walking on the railway tracks late at night, taking a short cut home from a friends house.
Maybe I was tired or whatever, i didnt know it but i must have been daydreaming walking along the tracks.

I heard a horn, sounding over and over, and I became aware of where i was walking, and my whole body braced, and I quickly stepped to the right and off the tracks. Around one to two seconds after I had stepped, the train passed still sounding the horn and body was still braced.

I became aware of an incident in the future, an incident involving a family member. I dont know how I became aware but it was so real in my mind that I started crying.I cried the whole way home and even cried myself to sleep. I was convinced this would happen.

The next day I told my parents, and they wrote it off saying it was late and I was tired, I even visited the family house and told the person to stay away from the railway tracks. They all thought nothing of it, laughed it off and said there are no railway tracks close to the house.

Anyways, the years passed, nothing happened, the family moved to a new house a few years later, but all was forgotten of my warning, even I had forgotten and continued life as normal.

Near the new house, was a railway track.
It was around ten years after the incident I had and my relative was hit by a train, what I knew ten years earlier had happened. Nearly same circumstances, the relative was walking along the tracks after being out at a friends house, the train was sounding the horn but it hit my relative.

How it came to me I do not know, and this is why I am posting, to try to find an answer.

Well so far it's been fun reading everyones responses..I too have often thought about this my only problem with it is what would happen when one died of old age. I had one close call when I was around I'd have to guess 13 or 14. I was walking around with some of my friends and we were passing by a 15 to 20 foot light pole with a huge glass dome at the top. As we walked past it one of my friends bumped it and apparently it was loose because the dome fell and shattered on my head an all i remember was waking up in someone arms with blood every where. I would never have second guessed this incident but oddly enough I don't remember much prior to when this occurred and even stranger a few years ago I was at some get together with my family and was talking to my uncle about it and stated I wonder why I have trouble remembering things before the event occurred and he said "because you never woke up" lol it really freaked me out though I almost had a panic attack haha. The only other thing I can't quite figure out which is puzzling is when I mentioned that this happened to my grandparents and mother they claim they don't remember it ever happening haha which I find absolutely bizarre. Any way just thought I'd share.

Hope everyone has a good night

I too have had similar experiences throughout my childhood. I was once wading in a pool when I was very young and decided that I gradually wanted to test myself by going out into the deep end. My cousins (who were all older than I was) were supposed to be supervising me while the adults lounged up at the house. As I ventured deeper and deeper into the pool I eventually came to a steep drop-off. I stuck my foot out, bobbing up and down trying to test the depth, my foot never touched the ground. Of course my cousins being teenagers had better things to do and so they carried on conversations and laughter at quite a distance from my location. Before I knew it I was flailing around trying to get some semblance of stability in the far end of the pool. I began drowning after fighting for some time then I somehow managed to grab hold of a ledge. I was NOWHERE near the side of the pool when I began going down and I was not propelling myself forward, sideways, or back in any way. Needless to say I was shocked....and my cousins got into a lot of trouble when the adults found out.

Another instance occurred when my friends and I were having a water-pistol fight in the yard we all shared. It started to rain and most of the kids went inside (even though we were all pretty much soaked anyway). My best friend and I continued playing in the rain before I came to the conclusion that my mother was going to be very angry at me for being so wet. I started to walk toward my house and my remaining friend stood at an outdoor pipe refilling his gun. All of a sudden there was a massive flash and a loud crack around me. I was stunned, I turned around for what seemed to be an eternity, to see my friend cowering in in a corner next to the pipe where he was filling up. I seemed to have somehow miraculously jumped forward from the spot where the lightning strike had occurred (which also happened to be the spot where I was stepping at that very moment). Luckily my friend was there to attest to this and I got to go through the remainder of my childhood with the rest of the neighborhood kids thinking I had some kind of power over lightning.

There were many more instances like the ones described which I can remember taking place sporadically throughout my childhood. I know people say that the memory fades and that new things come in and out but those people are wrong in these particular circumstances. There are some events you can see in your mind clear as day and that your brain takes the trouble of making sure you remember.

I've had numerous times when something occured to stop me being killed in motorcycle accidents in my young and wild man days.. things that defy our understanding of physics.

I've also had occassions where time has been distorted in some way, missing time or even once finding myself earlier in the day than it was a little while before when I checked the time.

But, I have to disagree with the concept that various timelines exist and follow on after we have taken a different path. To me everything that has not happened yet is only Possibility and Probability and remains that way until we take Action, after which time all other possibilities and probabilites no longer exist.. because I did not choose them in that moment.

What I see in my mind's eye when thinking about this is a series of paths, like wires, and each one is something I can possibly take or will probably take with my choice for action. Each point where these wires cross over is a Choice Option.. of which I can choose one path onward.. the other paths fade into nothingness because I didn't go that way hence they are no longer needed in any reality.

Close calls? Moments where you're sure you're gonna die?

I think we've all had those. XD

Back when I was like eight I wondered about Parallel Universes. The what if games we play in our heads.

I thought that maybe we die every single day in another universe.

I was a pretty deep eight year old wasn't I? lol

okay I could have been ten. But still.

Edit: My Paranoid theory was that if I was in a situation where something could go wrong then it would...just in another universe. Or when you almost crash...what if we did crash? That kind of thing.

This is something I have pondered for years which answers for me, the question of suicide.

What happens to one who commits suicide?

NOTHING!

It is impossible to kill yourself until it is your designated time for departure of course.

Imagine putting a fully loaded gun to your head, pulling the trigger, and..........click!

Meanwhile......in the dimension you just exited, your family and friends are all attending you funeral.

Gives new meaning to the old saying......"Life goes on"!!
Yeah, it sure does alright!!!!

Reading everyone's experiences and also having my own, has awakened all those strange occurances that I put down to 'my imagination'. I really feel this is a fantastic insight and being able to share and compare will aid us to better understanding. Very big star and flag for op x

One of the most significant 'time slips' was when I was about 8 years old, I was walking to school with my older brother ( who was walking behind me, not cool to be seen with little sister).

I remember walking off the path and on to the road, I heard a ear piercing scream (unsure wether it was my own scream) the scream alerted me to look to my right, as I did I seen a police car right in front at me driving towards me at about 30 mph.
Suddenly it was as if time had slowed down and I watched the police car head towards me in slow motion, yet I was frozen to the spot I could not move! Fear? Then I heard a very loud thud and felt a very faint knock on my leg. So hard to explain it was as if time had slowed right down.

The next thing I know I am stood on the opposite path with a paramedic asking me if I was ok and to come into the ambulance, to be checked over. The paramedic stated that I was very lucky to not of been hit, and if i was hit luck would have it there was a ambulance behind the Police car!
I have no memory of how I got from the middle if the road to path with a paramedic.
As far as I was aware the emergency vehicles were not on a emergency call hence not hearing the sirens. As I recall I felt very shocked and confused I did not go in the ambulance to be checked I just stated that I was ok and went to school.

My brother and I would often say how strange it was to be nearly knocked over by a police car with a ambulance behind it!!!

You would be well served to instead study the unreliability of the Human memory, which is what is behind these perceptions. Nobodies memories are accurate and yet everyone thinks theirs is. It's simply a physiological fact that needs no wild theories to explain.

People simply can not accept that their own memories are flawed.

I always found it strange that my brother had white-blond hair until he was about six, seeing how my parents both have dark hair, (as well as my other siblings) but this thread seems to explain it for me.

When my brother was six he fell out of a moving vehicle on the highway, my mom told me the door flew open and since he wasn't wearing a seatbelt he just fell out. She didn't know how he survived with just a couple of scrapes. My brother told me he has no memory of the event.

Maybe a time slip as well?

Eh I'm not really sure about this timeslip stuff, I can't really remember any timeslips but there's probably been 2 instances where I could've died, but at worst it probably would've been an injury. Anyway, one was when I was 5 and I was walking along with my umbrella when a huge gust of wind blew me forward and I was trying to fight against it but I couldn't and I was about to go onto a road where a car was driving up to and then suddenly the wind stopped, just in time.

2nd one is not one I want to go into, but it was something that may've been a head injury, not sure, and I'm not really sure if that could've ended my life or not.

Anyway, there we go. I don't think though that I ever actually died and get teleported to a different timeline but those are two things I can think of.

Wait, just as I finished typing I do remember a lot of inconsistencies when I was young, and they stopped at a certain age.

Quite often, prior to about 5 years old I'd see things that I wasn't sure the way they should be.

For example, I have memories of my dad leaving for work by walking down a small set of stairs to exit the house, and then I remember him just leaving by walking through the door, no stairs to leave, and I remember thinking how odd and I wanted to comment on it but for some reason I never did.

Other than that, (remember that all of this was prior to 5, very active mind etc
I've had experiences like outer-body experiences when I was younger, multiple times, there was this toy that when ever I held it, it would animate and then it'd happen.
I've also imagined for some reason that a vacuum cleaner came to life and for some reason spoke to me, pretty freaky as it wasn't a nice guy
, and I suppose other small things throughout my life, but I think the staircase is definitely a weird one.

Funny thing is though, I don't know of any events that may've occurred prior that would've been a near death experience, since the staircase thing was at about 3 years of age.

So, it probably comes down to a vivid imagination at such a young age etc, but whatever, people are all talking about their experiences so I might as well share it.

A couple things I have experienced, my brother-in-law recently went to a Verizon store to get a new cell phone, I rode along, and as we drove he slowed down near a mall, and said, where's the store? I was just here a week ago and was asking about cell phones. He swore it should have been where a parking lot was for the mall. He drove on a few blocks, and I saw the sign near the store which was 3 blocks farther down, and on a road one block north of the road he knew it should be. So he said, huh, must've been wrong, and went in to shop. Stores may change owners in a week, but not even be a building there or foundation, like it had never been there? And, a week ago, me and my sister were driving back from an errand, as I was getting out of the truck, she slammed the front psgr door hard, and I stupidly had curled my hand around the front psgr door frame while getting out myself from the back seat. I knew she slammed it hard, and so did she, and I even had to PULL my hand from between the frame and door. I just knew I must have some fingers cut off, right? My sister said afterward (she is a retired nurse who did death-and-dying care), she was prepared to have to cauterize my severed fingers. The only injury I got was a swelled 3rd finger with a bruised nail, and the adjacent finger was slightly bruised. What happened with that? Not even a broken finger.

I've stated my experience before, I was driving in N.C. mountains at Mountain City. I was going down a hill with snow covered roads. There was 100 foot drop-offs on both sides of the road. I messed up and pulled my car into second gear and lost traction. My car started to spin around and around at 50 mph... I hollered "Dear God, Help Me" as loud as I could because I know I was going to die as cars were coming at me...I shut my eyes for 1 second. The next second I was stopped in my lane, going the right way, and NO cars around me......My first and last time of this ever happening....Something has to be looking out for us...Don't know what it is , but it is something....

This happened back in1975, when Jeep Wagoneers rolled over a lot. Whe had just bought it and paid cash. We decided to go to see my parents not 20 miles from our house I was driving and going onto the interstate.
My husband dropped something on the floor and was holding our 4 month old son so he laid him on the seat. I was only going 35 mph, when the Jeep turned over, my husband went out the window, ever so slowly, the second time it rolled like in almost stop slow motion my son rose up into the air and was going out the front window. I just slowly reached up and grabed his arm and pulled him back onto the seat. The 3rd it rolled over time I turned around to see what my 6 year old daugther was doing, the seat had folded over on her and she was on the floor. The 4th time it rolled over I laid across my son. Everything was still, totally quiet, and so slow. My husband landed sitting up in the grass. Not a scratch on us. When it is not your time to go Miricles do happen, F&S Great Thread.
