The increase in food stamp recipients was the direct result of a downturn in the economy that started prior to Obama becoming elected. Lay the blame at the foot of the Bush administration where it squarely belongs. It was under his office that the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and FHL Banks instigated the infamous subprime mortgage crisis that began in 2003. When people start losing their homes due to foreclosure, they start to line up for food stamps.

In short, the food stamp situation was something that Obama inherited from the previous administration.

Once again, Gingrich is playing spin doctor with the facts.

Republicans wanting to lose

He represents "family values", but he had affairs. He had an affair in his first marriage with the woman he would marry as his second wife. This affair occurred while his first wife was sick with cancer, and he apparently asked her in the hospital for a divorce. Then while he was married to the woman he had an affair with, he cheated on her with a new woman that is now his third wife, while he led the investigation into Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky! Yuck.

That is fair to say so long as you remember that the Bush administration consisted of a house and senate controlled by Pelosi and Reed. Blame falls squarely on their shoulders as well.
