In this case the cleric is clearly white in appearance and a born and bred Australian.
So if it is meant to fan racism it fails.
In fact, it challenges stereotypes of what a radical Islamist looks like, and the usefulness of racial profiling in the War on Terror.
Compared to the radical white converts from similar clips in the UK, this guy doesn't even have the distinctive bushy beard, but appears to be
somewhat of a meterosexual.
I suppose globally the media is interested in these radical white converts (rather than e.g. black converts) and why they would choose a form of Islam
that is so radically against the culture that they come from.
In return they get to use the media to sermonize in their replies (well, this cleric first wanted cash, but agreed anyway).
