ok ive been having a look at this... those lines connecting the buildings are roads, look heres a grab showing a road connecting them, looks to me like they still have sand on them.

look at the bottom right of the image, a road, you can even see the dashed lines... just looks like these roads arent used so got covered up

e2a: definately roads

look at this shot:

its the same road I show above, just further to the left and shows the road apearing from the sand

and this one:

shows the bunker/water tower/alien space craft/secret porn storage whatever it is in the first grab and the roads appearing out of the sand, so deffo roads

Fantastic architecture on their buildings (your link).

It looks alot like an eco-city according to the plans... but I find it strange about being built on a grid and having no roads.

Maybe... it is a bunker that is also an eco-city, self sustaining for an unlimited amount of years, whereas normal bunkers are stocked for only a certain amount of years.

The person I replied to posted a link to underground habitats. The whole concept of these habitats was plants inside growing and thus the roofs were made transparent, which is simply not the case here. The link provided has nothing to do with the subject at hand, plain and simple.

If you go through all the effort and build a highly secret underground base in the middle of the desert, you won't let a shiny top stick out of the sand without taking whatsoever measures of camouflaging it. That doesn't make sense.

I stick to what I've said, these are massive underground fluid storage tanks, and I assume they store water. The whole area is an industrial site.

At first glance I thought missile silo, but I would guess they are for water/oil

how has nobody realized yet that the reason the roads dissapear is because the sand blows over them (or they are just dirt roads)? You can obviously see in the SUV pictures they are driving on sandy roads, and once you get to the structure the road is elevated so the sand wont settle on top of it, and thats why near the intersection you can see little sand piles on the paved road.

It's an irrigation field, use the coordinates on Google Earth (24.714502,54.984069) and you'll see the other areas of the grid have begun growing vegetation. There are some misc. buildings that could be farm related but maybe they are trying to deal with food shortage or something of the like, it doesn't appear to be any sort of secret though. It's very close to Dubai, you could probably even see it from that monster tower that was built there.

umm did anyone here think this is a MINE. Like a gold/siver/copper/diamond type mine? Or even a Rock Quarry? Usually those types of Quarry's have huge trucks, which descend in a circle and dig into the earth really deep. It seems it would make a structure like that.

just to repeat other posters, this building is above ground, look at the shadows ... from the south east

Did you notice the shell like structure of the domes anyone? Strength possibly, as in Nature like a snail,,Wow those things are huge ,and looking at the shadows cast by the center part of the domes quite tall. It being laid out in a grid by grid plot scheme ,is fascinating, could it be that there independent living quarters for differing family's or species perhaps. You can make out the panel by panel method of construction, not so much the fabric but what about connect-ability? Perhaps were just jumping the gun here and there nothing more than somebody/agency/conglomerate etc attempting to store up huge amounts of water because of predicted worldwide shortages, or a Noahs Ark. So many ifs, not enough answers. Please somebody enlighten me otherwise I`ll never sleep again!

First let me say to everyone who assumes they are missile silos, secret underground bases, nukes etc. - are you making that assumption because they are located in the UAE? Personally I think that would be more likely if these were located in the US. Anyway...

Water consumption is a critical issue in UAE. They use various desalination plants and obtain brackish water from underground wells etc. This water is used domestically for agriculture (i.e the structures in question) all the way up to large scale plants piped throughout the country. Located deep within this document (UAE Water Resources) are maps that indicate the area in question is in fact a forest. One of the largest in the country it would appear. Forestry is important to help prevent wind erosion from otherwise dry and sand deserts. Solar powered desalination plants are nothing new and as someone previously pointed out the UAE is known for dramatic architecture.

Could it be a water treatment plant associated with the new sewage system? Maybe that's why the roads are being covered up, because they were actually trenches dug for the new sewer pipes?

EDIT: They are water tanks 2 constructed in 2001-2003 I'm sure the rest are from later dates
www.gifford.uk.com...

ifford was commissioned to provide two circular concrete tanks in separate locations. Each of these has a capacity of 10 million gallons, a diameter of 80m and a storage height of 9m, with a heavily reinforced concrete base slab bearing onto prepared ground. They are protected from excessive evaporation and sand infiltration by a shallow domed roof slab of pre-cast concrete on a radial arrangement of beams of moderate span. These, in turn, are supported on an array of concrete columns within the tank space, which carry the roof load down to the base slab. Notable Features Concentric tank compartments – The client’s brief specified that 1) the structures were to have an acceptable appearance without introducing unnecessary clutter into the landscape and 2) that each reservoir could be cleaned periodically whilst maintaining substantial storage and supply. Following a similar prestressed concrete design to the 80m outer tank, our solution was to create an internal division with a concentric inner compartment of 50m diameter. Efficient prestressed concrete design – Our prestressed concrete wall design limits cracking to very low levels, providing long-term durability and watertightness, while the external surface of the outer tank walls can be subjected to high solar gain and significant temperature differentials. The use of an unbonded prestressing system was coupled with separate anchorage points housed in simple external pilasters at intervals around the tank walls and integral with them. This ensured that applied tendon prestress was effective around the whole perimeter. Inexpensive joint detailing at the base of the tank walls allowed for movement under initial prestressing. Simplicity for rapid construction – Each tank’s 82m base slab was cast in a single pour of 3,200 metres of concrete; believed to be the largest ‘single pours’ in the UAE at that time. The walls were straightforward to construct as the use of unbonded prestressing tendons simplified reinforcement cage and anchorage detailing and removed the need to post-cast grouting of hollow ducts. The prestressed roof was also simple, economic and easy to erect.

My personal opinion on all this, and it goes against some other posters ideas…..

-These are domes above ground, not crater-like going down into the ground. If they were, sand would be in the craters for sure, and in the pictures, there is no sand in them. Shadows can tell you they stick up, not down. The center portion has a shadow, as does the road/ramp up to it. There is no way these go down into the ground like a crater.

-The grid pattern are roads, just covered with sand as they are ground level. You can see lines on the roads for sure. To me, it almost looks like the making of a subdivision we would see here in the US. They typically lay the roads out first and then start building on the road pattern.

-I have no evidence at all as to what these structures are, but I do not think they are oil or water storage tanks. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, tanks underground like this need a way of being inspected, and when they are underground like this, that makes it a serious challenge. Contamination of oil or water tanks would be a serious issue, and with that said, I see no way of inspecting or performing maintenance of these tanks buried in the sand.

Again, this is just my opinion and is open to debate for sure. At this point, I am leaning toward some type of underground cities, bunkers, or something along those lines. The poster that linked to the diagram of these I think had it correct, but these do not look like they are clear glass or anything though. That doesn’t mean there aren’t different types or styles of them though. Anyways, great find to the OP! Thank you for sharing! Has anyone else found any of these elsewhere in the world?

From my point of view, it's an indoor parking lot, you know sand can almost cover your car when there's a storm.
And there an entrance that leads underground...

Then well, ITS AN UNDERGROUND REPTILIAN BASE OMG

Oh, and they also make water for the crops and happy people! ^^

Water for the OGM CROPS, GENETICALLY ALTERED HUMANS TO BE HAPPY OMG!

And those roads, wow, they all lead to Rome...

Rome...OMG i can't see the conspiracy here, something must be wrong. :p

I've been following this thread pretty much all day, and as far as I can tell the essentials so far are:

This area is in the UAE on the border of Dubai and ABu Dhabi, the buildings are above ground, you can tell from the shadows that the sun is in the south-east.
The buildings, seven of them, are huge, about 100 metres in diameter is my best guess. Buildings of this type on sandy sub-soil with need pretty substantial foundations to prevent movement. it must have been a huge construction project pre 2006. Who built these buildings? It appears there is vehicle access via a spiral roadway, into the top. The roads in some areas seem pretty clear of sand and in other places seem covered over.
I must admit this is bugging me, I've searched around the net, someone must built these structures or at least know something about them but I've come up with nothing as yet.
I'm inclined to think they are water storage or something similar, but structures of this size would surely be mention as an irrigation project locally. Maybe grain storage? Dubai is becoming one of the worlds largest hubs for grain and cereal distribution. My final thought is military, is that why we're all drawing a blank on this.
If you look to the north of the area, about 3 miles away areas of sand have been cleared and there looks like a runway for light aircraft, any thoughts anyone?

Looks to me like some kind of bunker or an underground facility of some kind. If it's in the desert it could even be a series of wells for groundwater.

Edit: Images don't seem to show up but hopefully the links work.

If you take the google time machine back to 2005 you can clearly see in much more detail, The roads look new and so do the domes, I've taken a couple of screenshots to show you
