Grats civPop.

It should be noted that aside from the ground level phots, even the contracting and project information had already been posted more than once through this thread.

And you know what the best part is???

2 weeks from now a whole new group of tinfoil hatters will revive this thread, not read through more than page 1, and end up creating a new conspiracy about what these are for at least 2-3 days.

These people are fricken Rich maybe beyound rich and they can afford about just anything they want to .. Wow

It makes me mad that here in a America we cant even agree in Wisconsin to have a highspeed railway my Govenor denied the money to build it ..

I beleive that picture is from Tatooine.

I think the high speed rail's benefit definitely does not outweigh it's cost to the taxpayers in an already cash-strapped state. Your governor has his head on straight, unlike my useless idiot governor Quinn in IL.

Maybe the thread continued because few people are willing to accept the stupid explanation of "irrigation field". Doesn't look like an effing field to me.

Civpop; My hat is off to you, sir! That was by far one of the most impressive examples of co-operative internet research. Just outstanding - As others have said, to the degree that with the age of the Internet and modern networking, to have an outreach as far as Abu Dhabi, from where the OP originates (state-side), that's just an incredible feat.

You know, I spent a sad seven, yes SEVEN (7) hours, yesterday researching this. I spent approximately 3 hours browsing through images (via-flickr, google images, etc.), and about 4 hours doing miscellaneous google searches on this. I ended up drawing a semi-concrete conclusion, coming to the same general idea - forestry/land-beautification/agriculture. However, no further images of the actual domes, or flat-top cones, as these seem.

The very interesting things that I DID notice though, throughout my 'investigation', which DO raise other questions, sort of going 'against the grain' of this forestry/irrigation conclusion, are the following;

The land/property surrounding the domes:
- I've noticed several smaller stand-alone buildings, randomly placed around the facility's property, or juuuuuuust outside of the proper boundaries. These structures appear to be smaller, maybe 20ft x 50-60ft single-level building, with a standard semi-angular roof (not flat). These structures or buildings, do not have any visible roads or paths leading TO or around nearby, for access - They are simply just 'there', placed ever-so randomly.
- The trapezoidal section, in the upper-right (north-eastern) sector of the "grid", which seems to 'disrupt' the grid roads perpendicularity and uniformity. This seems to be a raised plateau, where this is situated, with a decent amount of foliage/trees, yet also paired with some of those random buildings mentioned above, within this 'trapezoidal section'. I just find it rather out of place and random, with no lines of irrigation leading up to it, or away.
- The uniformity of the grid-like road/street system within this 'forestry/irrigation' complex, is also quite odd. At over a 1/4mile with these straight sections of road, that some are often covered up in wind-blown sand, there doesn't seem to be a definitive purpose or reason behind this system of streets, intersections, etc.
- Also, adding to my last comment on the roads/streets.. If this is just an irrigation/forestry project, then why are there full-blown markings and signage on the paved roads, like there would be in your typical metropolitan/urban street-setting.. With the white and/or yellow hatch-markings around bends, intersections, and on the straight sections.. I just find this a little 'over the top' if not, REALLY out of place, since this is supposedly only an 'irrigation/forestry' project, and isn't open to the general public/etc.

The structure itself:
- If these are simply water-stations or pumps, or whatever related to the above aforementioned 'irrigation/forestry' project, then why are the ramps leading up and around the dome/structure, SO wide and has TWO lanes? It doesn't look like the platform up top allows enough space for a large/heavy vehicle/truck to actually TURN around to go back down the other lane, on the spiral ramp.
- These spiral ramps leading around and up these dome structures are WIDE, heavily reinforced, and multiple lanes (two). These ramps are approximately 900-1000ft long, when you stretch them out into a straight-line, the ones that wrap/wind around the dome structure. As stated before, the flat area on the top part of the dome, AROUND the flat raised structure on top, doesn't appear to have nearly enough room for really more than one or two vehicles (SMALL ones at that, perhaps similar to a civilian SUV or truck, in size), to be stationary, much less moving around and trying to go around one another, or to even turn around and then drive back down the way you came up, down that spiral ramp.
- Since this is only a forestry or irrigation-station/whatever, then why are these things, these dome structures, why are they SO heavily built-up and engineered, to appear to hold SEVERAL large machines/tractors/trucks, for driving up to the top and/or down? What must me maintained, implemented, or used ON, inside, within, or even UNDER the dome structure, that would require SUCH huge and heavy equipment?

Those are just a few questions and/or things that came to mind, that I have on the subject... oh, and why in the hell are these fences surrounding this entire stretch of land, SO tall, so large, and so 'fortified', when this seems to just be an irrigation/forestry project.. Hmm. Strange..... Oh, and the simple fact that there is apparently no obvious paper-trail (literally, or e-paper trail lol), on any of this project, or on any of these structures/buildings, and no official or unofficial pictures of any of this complex or these domes, until just NOW, courtesy of the awesome Civpop.. I find this all to be a little odd, out of place, strange, random, and just a little out in 'left field', to just be a simple irrigation project or some forestry project.

My $.02 lol

I would say fall-out shelters, or something like it. Or, on a more conspiracy based note, perhaps living co-ordinates should anything really happen on 12/21/12

After looking over the surrounding area, I notice there's a large amount of farming (of what I do not know) also it seems as though parts of the grid formation has been used to farm and have moved along in a southeastward direction. Also in the southeastward cornerish of the grid area there is a small plantation with two random shacks?
lol thought it was odd

NOTES:

I believe the grid lines are roadways, yes it is pointless to have roads like this
Thus most of them are unused and covered with sand.

the long roadway this grid is on, connects to two major highways also with farming

where roadways connect to this link there is tire tracks rather than tunnels (check shadows)

these google shots are from 2008, imagine what else is there now

These very well may be silos/bunkers or even both

Great thread. I'm really interested in knowin' what those things are. I think it's really weird. They kinda look like entrances to underground bases or something. I mean, what would be the point of a road goin' up and curving around on them like that. You should keep this updated.

According to how our world operates, One such technology and architecture is always put in the hands of some military force. So definitely this is military. Very interesting though, but seems more happening underground than we can see,

Ok here are the pictures, the area where the domes are is called Al Maha Forest, its surrounded by a green fence and is signposted as Forest Greenbelt, they are planting and growing trees in there and you can see this through the fencing, we spotted round 8 of these domes which are raised and made from concrete, its definitely something to do with preserving the environment, regrowing trees and such, nothing sinister, the road grid areas that you see on google look dissused as the actual forest looks pretty much deserted, we saw no signs of vehicles or anything and some of the roads inside had been covered over with sand over time, there looks in some of the pictures like they are attempting to construct a new dome, my view is this is nothing sinister.

From the picture of the gate with the sign its the local Abu Dhabi Municipality project and conservation.

Excellent Research, Thank you. I mentioned earlier that it looked like helipads for an agricultural project
in the making. But I must say, that is some VERY expensive fencing for an AG project in the middle of the desert.
2-Tone Paint and angled speared points as well. What a very interesting project. This really piques my interest
as I have a plant physiology background. Thanks for giving me a lead to research by providing the name of
the forest project.
Best Regards to you,,,,Wildmanimal

My first impression was a missile silo.

I've never seen a missile silo but intuitively that was my first impression. If oil or water
was stored there, probably there would be more equipment roads trucks and storage and so on.

Underground missile silos I would vote on. But I am not sure.

congratulations on discovering what they are! It's benign and good and makes me feel
better anyway. In that desert, what could be more precious than water?
