Now if I was a fear monger I would say something like this:

OMG!!!! The Comet is going to disrupt the thermonuclear reaction causing the sun to implode releasing extreme gamma radiation that will wipe out all living things as we now it!!!!

or

It's not actually a comet at all but rather a spaceship trying to use the sun's gravitational pull to slingshot itself into another solar system.

And then I would support these bogus claims with cheesy youtube videos and unrelated professionals giving an opinion.

Just releasing my imagination.

With the angle that it is going in, it looks like it will hit the area with the flare activity on the lower right side. Well if it hits at all. I wonder if that is going to make any difference in the outcome???

I don't think it will. If it is a comet it will probably burn up and evaporate before it hit the surface. If it's a rogue asteroid it will probably burn causing a tail like effect and then get engulfed by sun and disintegrated.

Thank you . It looks like the closest distance to Sun will "happen" on 11/09/2011 , and we talk about 0.482 AU, so no chance to see a similar "dive" . I wonder where this current comet comes from?

And this video clip is why we are all sitting here guessing instead of knowing about it week in advance. Get real people, they don't talk about this stuff with your average jo.

If you look at the images from STEREO B you can get a better idea of the actual location of the comet. STEREO B is located about 90º behind Earth in its orbit. The SOHO satellite is located directly sunward of Earth.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/59dab49fdfaa.gif[/atsimg]

The images from STEREO show that the comet is actually approaching from the far side of the Sun.

The comet is on a highly inclined orbit. It is probably, typical of sungrazers, a Kruetz comet. Kruetz comets are thought to be the remnants of a large comet that broke up in the 12th century.
