Read about the fact that tomorrow the Ugandian parliment will decide whether being gay is a death penality offence...barbaric imo.

This led on to further reading, was dismayed to find that 'corrective rape' is on the increase in South Africa and other African countries.

A 13-year-old lesbian has become the latest victim of "corrective rape" in South Africa, prompting activists to call for direct retaliatory action.

Campaigners say so-called corrective rape, in which men rape lesbians to "cure" them of their sexual orientation, is on the increase in South Africa. Thirty-one lesbians have been killed because of their sexuality in the past decade, campaigners say, and more than 10 lesbians a week are raped or gang raped in Cape Town alone.

Last month, a 24-year-old woman who belonged to a gay and lesbian rights group was stoned to death after an apparent gang rape.

Guardian

I think those who belive in 'correctiive rape' or the death penalty for homosexuality will grasp any reason, religious, health, superstition and hatred for their bias.

This is imho an appalling situation.

Africa is too far gone to have any form of "correction". That country is in a dead sprint back into the stone age.

I am positive that if this had been Muslims stone woman for being a lesbian, or Muslim country and the death penalty for homosexuality there would have been serious replies.

Or is it because it is a female issue, who are repressed in much of the world,

You're correct.

I've mentioned before how gay people are legally and socially persecuted in predominantly Christian countries, in Africa and the Caribbean, largely because of these countries' interpretations of Biblical scripture.

Yet, all we hear is how supposedly barbaric Muslim countries and cultures are.

It's a pity that there's no provision for ATS to expunge offending posts and the subsequent replies to those posts. They just clutter up the thread. Anyway, that's by the by.

Back on topic: one of the major causes of the rampant Islamophobia that we see is the fact that people will automatically attribute some barbaric act to the religion, rather than to socio-economic and cultural factors that contribute to it.

Here we see, in Christian countries such as Uganda and South Africa, similar barbaric practices not being blamed on the religion of those who are responsible for the acts.

Clear double-standards.

A Ugandan national newspaper actually published a list of prominent gay men in the country, inciting people to ''hang them''.

Shortly afterwards, a prominent gay activist in the country got bludgeoned to death. At his funeral, the pastor presiding over the service called for gay people to ''repent or be punished by God''.

Religion needs to be correctively raped right out of existence.

That being said, 31 lesbians killed in 10 years comes out to 3.1 dead lesbos per year.

Not exactly an epidemic.

Also an average of ten raped every week all for the cause of correcting sexual preference!

Even in the days when homosexuality was against the law in the UK hard labour was about as bad as it got.

Should we blame religion per se, or mans manipulation of it, to satisfy his/hers own bias and hatred.

I am not a Christian, yet respect the words ascribed to a man called Jesus, such as "love your enemy" "He without sin caste the first stone" etc.
How do many so call religious folk sleep at night, with so much hatred in their hearts?
