Both Comet Elenin and Asteroid Apophis are real, but these concerns about collisions are without foundation. Unfortunately there are a few popular websites that are known for suggesting multiple catastrophes, including popularizing the 2012 hoax. Two that show up in any search for “Comet Elenin” are godlikeproductions and abovetopsecret, both of which predict either a very close pass by Earth or a collision.

Funny to see ATS forum getting mentioned

Well if they post a pic everyone will shut up.. Not a smugg either one of the top secret satellites images that can see Jupiter interior Saturn moons. Let one of them type of pics out and the populace may hush. Its just those very pretty green and blueish images arent ready for public eye. Hubble can see it if it can see other galaxies. So I guess he just gotta join ATS and post some greenish blue pics.

He's mad as US for all of the 2012 hype? Hollywood has been eating this stuff up since it became popular! How many movies and television shows have there been in the past 5 years about the 2012 apocalypse theories? Dozens, if not hundreds, each being watched by thousands of people across the world. But he chooses to point the finger at conspiracy theorists, because we're the bad guys for using our imagination and speculating. What a douche.

If instead you consult dependable websites like wikipedia and skyandtelescope you will find that Comet Elenin will come nowhere near the Earth.

Since when is Wikipedia considered a "dependable" site?

Really? Ok...

But way to go guys, now lets get the truth about Elenin if you will NASA. The longer you withhold info and dance around the issue, the longer members here will post about possible impact.

Put up or shut up time ladies and gents.

My thoughts exactly. That's been the official line too, "use Wikipedia for more honest and truthful information". Ok.....so while we wade through the latest additions of fact such as "Hugh Jackman is an Australian actor best known for playing Wolverine. he is also gay", we'll see the truth won't we?

I think I'll trust the astrobiologist on this matter and not some armchair 'expert'.

LOL what about the buzz room clip that got swept under the rug?

And what about the JPL trajectory app? When was the last time we got an honest or even a straight answer out
of NASA or any of them? Umm....never. So what are we left with?

Speculation!!! Ding! Ding! Ding!

When you scroll down to the bottom of the web page to the section called 'references'

If instead you consult dependable websites like wikipedia and skyandtelescope you will find that Comet Elenin will come nowhere near the Earth. At its closest (in mid-October) it will be about 30 million km from our planet.

Distance of the four inner planets from the sun (in AU)
Mercury .39 [.3870320856]
Venus .72 [.7232620321]
Earth 1.0 [1.0]
Mars 1.52 [1.523395722]

30 million kilometers = 0.20053744 Astronomical Units
So it will be closer to us than Venus? Cool.

Also wikipedia is dependable? K.

And they'll keep telling us it's an hoax right up until they are in their underground bunkers and the rest of us are left to face certain doom!!!

But honestly, it is only a hoax isn't it?

ETA: When did Wikipedia become dependable?
