"I have no use for people who think a "living wage" is a good idea. It simply wouldn't work. The people in this thread who have suggested that burger flippers should be paid $15 are utterly useless in all facets of life."

Ok well I can agree with you on that no one flipping burgers should be paid 15 an hour but they should be paid slightly more than they are...I wasn't attacking you btw just saying some people aren't talentless but there literally isn't work in many places and people are being forced to take a job they normally wouldn't

The opinions of people I do not know mean absolutely nothing to me. Whether they love me or hate me, I couldnt possibly care any less what they think.

Sure there are some genuine "tough luck" cases out there where truly talented people are victims of circumstance. That being said, life is not fair, and making it fair is not a function of government.

Why should they be paid more?

What is the magic number?

too bad it'll be too late.

Wow man honestly I have a hard time talking to someone who has such a high and mighty attitude such as yourself...fact is the cost of living is so high almost no one can live on minimum wage...I make well over minimum wage btw but I'm not here calling people losers and bashing them...you keep telling people to grow up seems you have quite a bit left to do

Car payment
house payment
medical bills
children expenses
insurance
food
gas
and minimum wage covers all that right...

Those who dont invest in tangible assets, whether they be commodities, firearms, etc etc will learn a very painful lesson once the dollar finally bites the big one.

Personally, I cant wait.

Minimum wage isnt meant to cover all of that. Thats why it's called MINIMUM wage. It's an entry level wage.

Minimum wage workers arent supposed to be able to afford a car payment.

Minimum wage isn't meant to be a career or provide a great life for someone. Its what you start making and then move on.

I do not believe I am high and mighty, I simply have no tolerance for people who whine about not getting paid enough when a large percentage of the time their low pay is the result of their own poor choices.

No one is entitled to a living wage. You earn it.

This is my first post and I do agree with the op. I am also going to guess that everyone bashing poor people are not christian.. I am an aethiest business owner who would never pay minimum wage because I actually value my employees. The average starting pay is$15 and that is for unskilled/untrained workers. I have worked in restaurants where people stole to feed their family while we threw out a trashcan of food at the end of every night. They can afford hundreds in waste everyday but cant pay a decent wage?

Just to cheer minimum-wage ppl up, where I live most survive with 250 euros a month income. If you work for a say, US company (eg call centre), you'd get some 400 bucks a month. It depends on your job but no applicable skills means scraping with 400 bucks, with some nice skills and a lot of luck you could top 1000 bucks. Not saying you are having free lunches there but its far from rock bottom as you can see.
Now not even slaving 10hrs a day for 250e a month is rock bottom, working for free is the real kicker.... then, you have to take vacation so you can do an illegal side-job for some bread. That's impossible for now in America but it has happened in other countries.

Privacy is priceless. If one learns how to properly use entities like LLC's formed in the right states, the possibilities are endless when it comes to remaining hidden and avoiding taxes

Or so I've heard.

The most funniest thing is we have people arguing over 2-4 dollars an hour that would make the difference between feeding themselves and providing shelter for themselves. And here comes a thread that is borderline hilarious www.abovetopsecret.com... Instead of talking business practice why don't we talk about the real meat of the discussion and call it for what it is: Income inequality (rape)and the system that makes it possible..

I work harder/make more than most of the old timers in my business. I know what its like to come from nothing to well above average. Its because of this I understand how hard and unfair life can be. That being said I still think a living wage is a awesome idea.

Explain how someone how can barely afford to eat, or put cloths on there back are to "market themselves" and open a business? There should be a minimum standard of living to ensure that society in our country moves forward instead of a downward spiral of debt, uneducated masses, welfare, and a multitude of other problems that tag along.

Government has no Constitutional authority to ensure income equality.

That is not a function of government, nor should it ever be.

Absolutely not. There should be nothing even remotely close to a minimum standard of living. It would involve outright theft in the name of income redistribution, and that is an offense to the very ideas this country was founded upon.

People need to be free to succeed or fail on their own.

I ran a law firm and this is what I did when I hired staff. I told them they could use all the legal pads, pens, etc they needed. All office supplies were also available for personal use. Feel free to make long distance calls and please try and keep it reasonable. Copying for personal use including stuff for their kids was fine. They could use the postage meter for personal use. If they wanted to look for another job, just ask and we would let them go interview so please don't say you are at the doctor, etc and really be at an interview.

This approach was a rousing success. Everyone was respectful of everything. We never had any problems. It's amazing what happens when you treat adults like adults.

Who said anything about the government? We all know the government hasn't been for the people in decades, possibly in centuries. No this is economic system problem, one that you so openly approved of. How can people in their right minds say that capitalism (at least the mutated version we adhere to) is the best system available? this is insanity.

Just the richest 400 Americans hold more wealth than the bottom 50 percent of Americans combined, and the richest 10 percent of Americans control two-thirds of the country’s net worth

If you do not see a MAJOR problem with that quote then you are beyond hope.

Check out the very minimal requirements in New Mexico when forming an LLC

It helps big time and RA's are cheap.

It is the best system available.

Dont tell me you advocate something insane resembling socialism do you? If so, you are beyond hope.

A large portion of the bottom 50% have no income whatsoever, why is it surprising they pale in comparison in terms of wealth to the wealthiest Americans?
